VIDEO: The Stig runs the GT-R around Top Gear's track

Click above to watch the GT-R take on the Top Gear test track
It's the lap time that everyone has been waiting for. Just how fast can the Stig push the Nissan GT-R around Top Gear's test track? Those who couldn't wait could see the track time posted on Wikipedia a few days ago. Even after the entry was removed (it's since been added back in), Wikipedia still allowed users to review the revisions made to an entry. So while the GT-R's time may have been no secret, those with enough will power not to look can now watch the video of the GT-R lap the Top Gear test track and have the result still be a surprise. Even if you do know the time, it's still worth watching, and as an added bonu,s Clarkson wrings out the GT-R at the Fuji race circuit. Just follow the jump to watch the video.

The best of the day folks!
Nissan make a hand built engine and do a new benchmark for affordable supersport car.
wellcrafted is NOW "just stupid"????
lol.

Awesome car.. awesome technology. not for everybody including myself, but it's an amazing machine, to say the least.
Hopefully TG gets a ZR1 & a GTR on the show together.. that would be a hell of a show-down.

No it wouldn't.
Let Top Gear US do that comparison, the rest of the world doesn't care about your Corvette.
Shiftright 12:13AM (7/21/2008)
Craig, when did you start speaking for the 'rest of the world'? Maybe 'the rest of the world' to you is your bedroom at your mom's house where you play with all your imaginary friends?

will all the gm shills please raise your hands?
thank you.

" Let Top Gear US do that comparison, the rest of the world doesn't care about your Corvette."
Now that's just blatant hate. I appreciate a good car no matter what it is. If the rest of the world thinks as primitive as you we don't want you to care... The opinion of simpletons doesn't really matter anyway.
WITH THAT SAID...
HATS OFF TO THE NISSAN GTR!

@Craig
Joke post? lol

I'm not a GM shill but I will argue that the ZR-1 deserves huge respect, and I will note that most people who bash Corvettes on internet forums have never driven one, or even sat in one.

It's still an automatic so it fails. And nobody give me the "no torque converter no auto" because it all comes down to no clutch pedal = automatic, and it has the ability to be put into automatic mode

+1 for the ZR-1!
it may be faster, but i doubt its as great to drive
b0nesc 11:21PM (7/20/2008)
It's not an automatic you retard. Just because there is no pedal doesn't make it an automatic. A clutch is a clutch.
tankd0g 11:23PM (7/20/2008)
Ya like those F1 cars, friggin slush boxes...
why not the LS2LS7? 11:26PM (7/20/2008)
What? It's definitely an automatic. It's not a hydra-matic (slushbox) though.
I'd still love to drive it, despite the automatic gearbox.
I think we're all going to have to get used to these dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, they aren't going to go away.

tankd0g:
This is a different transmission from an F1. Dual-clutch gearboxes are not allowed in F1 (they require a momentary interruption of drive during shifting). Also, F1 gearboxes are not allowed to automatically upshift anymore, that was dropped two years ago. But that's just software, they could turn it back on in testing or whatever if they want.

You fail at life.
Ermax18 11:55PM (7/20/2008)
What isn't automatic about it? It automatically preselects the next gear and then automatically disengages one clutch and engages the next. Hmm.. I guess I am an idiot too. If it lacks three pedals it is BORING. Trust me. I have driven fast cars with these newer auto boxes and they are only fun for a day (ok, not that long) and then you wish you could go back to three pedals.

I don't know about "Fails" but I agree- this car has an automatic transmission, just like mommy's Volvo wagon. But hey, at least there are sports cars for people who don't know how to drive for real!
Kitko 8:23AM (7/21/2008)
It's really a nightmare to have you here on this forum. The car is not automatic, it just doesn't have the clutch pedal. Pretty much no sports car has a clutch pedal these days but they do have a clutch.
When speed is an objective, NO human foot can beat an electronic impulse the CLUTCH gets by driver's moving the lever. You know, it's called technology.
And as to an earlier Corvette point, US guys, the world really doesn't care about about it, and it doesn't care about the Mustang and Camaro either. Those cars, their technology is stucked in the 60s, engines, chassis, design, handling...
They may be quick - but you also can make a cluster of 100 mid 90s computers to arrive at the computing power of today's desktops. But it takes a lot of space and the rest of the world just laughs.
