Ford Fiesta Zetec S to debut before RS version

While the official unveiling of the 2009 Ford Fiesta is still a couple weeks away, that hasn't stopped Ford from tossing sneak peeks of a sportier Fiesta Zetec S out to the hot-hatch followers. Nowhere near as aggressive as the Focus RS, the Zetec S is differentiated by its body kit with new front splitter and side skirts. The European Fiesta will be offered with five different engines, but the Zetec S will feature only the Duratec 1.6-liter rated at 118 hp. Tuned for efficiency, yet designed to be fun-to-drive, the new hatch will scoot to 62 mph in less 9.9 seconds and squeeze an impressive 50 miles out of a single gallon of gas.

Why do you assume I thought differently?

Me 2. Please let this replace the lethargic U.S. Focus if they're not bringing the Euro Focus to America.

In US MPG, it'll probably get between 35-40mpg.
Not bad, but given that 0-60 takes 10 seconds, not that good either. 95-99 Dodge Neons could get 35-40mpg with a 5spd, but hit 0-60 in around 7.5-8 seconds.

LOL
Whatever the stats are, the car looks better than the Prius, it's a quality car and it's American which keeps US working!

YMCA - I too am gay for this car!
I thought you were gay if you loved a Subaru not a Ford?
boneheadotto 10:39AM (7/12/2008)
Not Subaru but the othere S's Saab and Saturn. We knew a guy we always thought was gay then he bought a purple convertable Saab. Maybe he just had bad taste

looing nice, if its anything like the current fiesta then thats exactly what the full sports model will look like just with the toned down engine, no 1.6tdci in the zetec-s this time tho?
i'm not sure there would be a fiesta rs tho, probably an ST model like the current one. hasnt been an rs fiesta for ages now rs1800 was the last i think.

Eh. Design departments are just doing what marketing/engineering is telling them to do. It's not their fault. There is a lot of talent in ANY automotive design team, but the problem lies in the rest of the company disregarding designer input, too many bean counters, too many negative engineers, and too many marketing/business major douchebags who think they know what they are talking about.

I really hope Ford see fit to roll out a fun version of the Fiesta on the US market. Fiesta SVT!

cars.com says that it will get 38.9 mpg combined, which is very acceptable. and thats not adding a light foot which will most likely get 45+mpg on the highway!
