Suzuki Carry drifter: it's O-KEI!

As Autoblog's resident kei car fanboy, I like to share news and links about the diminutive forbidden-fruit rides whenever something interesting pops on the radar, like yesterday. Today, it's just a photo, courtesy of the gang at Speedhunters. The tiny kei pickup is a Suzuki Carry, which, in the hands of a normal business owner, does precisely that. This one's obviously a wee bit more specialized though, as the rear wing and roll bar suggest. This little work truck's job is drifting. It might look wrong, but there's something so right about it. Who says you need triple-digit horsepower to have fun?

That's awesome, where can I get one? I don't need an F-550 Crew Cab to carry four pieces of 2x12-14's. Just something to throw the occasional stick of lumber at, and maybe some 50 pound bags of potting soil for the mum. Passengers aren't a priority for this kind of vehicle, one to drive and one to pay for the cargo.

If it was a Lightning, an SS, or an SRT-10 there'd be a million "why do you need to go fast in a truck" comments.
Let's see what they say now.........

They would say, a video is worth a thousand pictures...

Yup so you best get on posting that 33 second video.
This thing is soo light in the rear.. The cab would pretty much just spin if it did donuts.

That's because those trucks get 10 MPG, are the size of a Japanese apartment and, in my experience, are driven by the douchiest drivers on planet Earth.

Looks better than a Ridgeline.

AWESOME!!! So, how do we get the US government to remove restrictions on Kei cars? "Small is beautiful".

You can import Kei trucks legally as "Farm Equipment" granted you keep them off the road.

Import the Kei trucks as "Farm Equipment." Alot of Heavy Equipment Dealers import them as such.

5th Gear's use of a Bedford Rascal (AKA Suzuki Supercarry) was better.

I tested one of these recently. I'm planning on buying one to use around home. These make much better sense in winter time than those Kawasaki Mules.
But if these are too small for you, go to Tiger Trucks at www.tigertruck.com. They sell a Champ that's the same size as a Silverado pickup (see the side-by-side photo). They're built in Oklahoma from CKD kits from China. However, it's not legal for US roads, but you can drive them on the road in Mexico.

What good is a wing in a giant atmospheric hole behind that cab?
