Mitsubishi will build Concept-cX SUV

It comes as no surprise that Mitsubishi will be making a production version of the Concept-cX SUV first shown at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. The design was well received and will slot right beneath the Outlander in size and price. Equipped with a new 1.8-liter, Euro 5-compliant Clean Diesel four-cylinder turbo engine, the cute 'ute will be the new flag-bearer for Mitsu's green efforts. Borrowing the twin-clutch SST transmission and all-wheel-drive platform from the latest Evo aims to put the 'sport' back in the Sport Utility Vehicle.
While the new SUV and Mitsubishi's line of Clean Diesel engines is a lock for the European market, we are still waiting for an announcement regarding what other markets the cX will be headed to and what other engine options will be available.

Just make it look less stubby.

how about a lot less stubby?

Call me old fashioned, call me late for dinner, but Mitsu don't call me to acquire one of these. The collision center business will really suffer as it comes out of the box looking like it already ran into a wall.

The diesel engine is great. The SST transmission is great. Everything else about the car--why? Why not put those pieces into a practical, sensible vehicle, like a Lancer or something?
I guess part of it is that I've never understood the whole mini-SUV thing. You get most of the downside of a true SUV with none of the upside.

The Lancer already uses a Volkswagen diesel unit as one engine option for markets in Europe and Asia.

This looks like a Lancer front + Mini body. Mitsu already did a Lancer + Audi butt w/the Ralliart. What's next? Lancer + hummer?

Yes the back profile is definitely mini but the nose is Tiguan.

How about removing the clown-shoe sized wheels and tires, dropping it about 6 inches, and changing the cheap looking black grill trim to body color?
Thanks for playing

they build this, yet they can't build the Lancer/Evo-powered AWD Eclipse coupe? Concept RA... why not?

Great more choices is a winner for Mitsu.
Now bring over the "i", Hybrid Lancer and Replacement Galant.

If it gets over 30 mpg highway, which it should with the diesel but they'll also need a gas option if it goes up for sale in the U.S., then I think it will sell well. But if it's just something like 23/28 mpg with the gas engine, there is no great attraction.
Ben 9:01PM (7/10/2008)
This kinda looks like the Tiguan, esp. in the overall profile.

Cool, more compacts the better. The only problem is I'm having trouble figuring out what exactly this competes with?
Bring on the CT MIEV and the new Galant (Concept-ZT)!

We need more vehicles like this in the U.S. Gas prices are high and so those of us who need all wheel drive need something economical. This looks like it has real potential.
