2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s still available

For those of you desperately waiting for the next batch of Dodge Challenger SRT8s to be built after the announcement that the first 6,400 2008 models were already spoken for, fret not, supply is on your side. The Detroit News is reporting that while the majority of limited edition SRT8s were already sold before they were built, about one-quarter of the Challengers were set aside for dealer orders.
Several retailers across the U.S. have between two and twenty Challengers sitting on the lot, with one dealer advertising in Michigan's Macomb Daily that nine Brilliant Black, eight Hemi Orange and two Silver Metallic HEMI-powered coupes are available for the taking. Naturally, supply is dependent on where you live. One dealer in Naples, Florida sold out all eight Challengers in three days, while others have only sold only one out of their allotment. And just because you can find one, doesn't mean it will be selling for sticker. Markups are to be expected, with one dealer charging $45,145 – or about $7,000 – above the SRT8's MSRP.

$7000 over M.S.R.P. ---- P.T. Barnum ("there is a sucker born every minute") would love it. Seriously, who in their right mind????? for a Dodge????

Tuck in your skirt, your bias is showing.

I love the car, but I'm not paying $7000 over sticker for it.

What's even more hilarious is that this is news. Gas is $4 a gallon and rising, and somehow it's a surprise that v8, fuel sucking 3800lb pigs are 'available'. No crap.
They're available because they aren't in high demand right now. Are they attractive? Sure. But they're not in high demand.

I don't understand, TJ. What bias is showing?
Who on earth would pay $7,000 over MSRP for a Dodge?! Would you pay $7,000 over MSRP for a Honda? I bet you wouldn't!
TJ 12:38PM (7/10/2008)
for a dodge? no.
For one of the initial run of a limited edition, high performance muscle car? yep. And many people have.
User 12:57PM (7/10/2008)
Aw, I see your point.
However, going along with the Bias thing... I wouldn't buy a limited edition Honda Civic Mugen for $7,000 over MSRP. lol
TJ 1:02PM (7/10/2008)
I see your point ala Mugen; however, if Honda speculators start paying $ 1/2 million for a 1970's civic, then people might consider dropping over MSRP for a limited edition run of the little fartcanmobiles.
sidenote: are you indirectly comparing a civic with an SRT in a discussion about performance machines? :-)

Apparently not enough suckers or they wouldn't be sitting on lots.
John 1:58PM (7/10/2008)
There are also plenty of suckers paying $7000 for Geo Metros that are only worth $2000 because $4 gas has caused there brain to be stuck on stupid.
Whether paying $7K over sticker for a gas sucking pig that will be thousands under sticker in a year or two or paying $7K for a beer can car to save $50 a month in gas, there is enough stupidity to be spread around nowadays.

hahah, tuck in your shirt

Pfft. There's a picture of a Challenger which sells with a 20,000$ markup on GTPlanet.net...

Also heard from a few dealerships that because the first run of cars are coming with the standard wheel tire package, but the later run will be available with the wider package, alot of preorders are now being used for the next round of SRT8 cars.

Also, the 2008 cars lack a LSD that the 2009's will get standard, so that could be a deal breaker for some.

I'm still waiting, Chevy! Can you move a Camaro yet!?
If the concept debuted the same time that the Camaro did then wtf? The only way I'll be happy is if Chevy makes more than Ddoge did.

Wait a second, on April 24th, you posted an article saying that all 2008 Challenger's were sold out.
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/24/going-going-gone-srt8-challengers-sold-out/
"You can still give your dealer all the coins in your piggy bank, but the money goes on the hood of 2009 model, scheduled to arrive this fall."
I'm confused...

They were all sold...to the dealers. Even if the dealers put them all as sold orders, a bunch of them were fictitious, and the dealers will sell to the highest bidder when they hit the lot. The sales rates will tell you who is charging too much over sticker. Anyone selling at or close to sticker has already sold their cars.

It's logical. Dodge lied. Or the owners returned them.
oZ 3:56PM (7/10/2008)
... or the dealers lied.

No. Dodge lied about the Challengers being sold out @the guy above me.
