Somewhere, our pal Mike Bumbeck is smiling, because Mitsubishi has produced yet another vehicle worthy of its classic "Super Potential" slogan. No, there's no new-fangled Starion, unfortunately, but there is now an i MiEV police car. Mitsubishi has supplied one of the teensy EVs to the Kanagawa Prefecture police, who will test it through March of next year. Sure, it's not particularly intimidating, but it is (ahem) arrestingly cute. As mentioned at AutoblogGreen, we'd have had that battery pack power a set of on-board tasers, too. Talk about missed opportunities...

That looks like it's only good as a meter maid car.
ML @ Jul 9th 2008 12:49PM
This is cool for cops . . . a police cruiser and (if wired right) a Taser all in one vehicle(!).

That will scare the heck out of me.... the next time I am breaking the law on a golf course.

It looks like the cop cars from "Demolition Man"

It looks like a bi-polar jelly bean.

Should be excellent for high speed bicycle pursuits.

No thanks. I'll take a Suzuki Vitara with The Stinger please.

GM would do much better with a car like this one, only without the electrical engine than with super costly Volt.
Good small cars will sell big now, which is what GM dealers need, not some pipe dream vehicle.

I think it will be more pleasant for law breaker. The vehicle is nice and will make the criminals to smile for a while. Do not understand that I’m dealing with them. No way.

Don't forget-cops have radar. And radios. And roadblocks. And aircraft. And shiny new Dodge Chargers to chase you down in case you get any ideas. And trained attack dogs. And shotgun-toting sharpshooters with itchy trigger fingers. And judges that won't hesitate to throw the book at you. And connections with the local media to put you on the front page of the local newspaper or the top story on the local TV or radio news show just to embarass you because they can. So think twice before you try to test that Mitsu cop buggy.
Just kidding. It's a joke!

Tata called. They want their Nano back.
Yar @ Jul 9th 2008 1:59PM
I would have trouble taking this officer seriously.
vkchu @ Jul 9th 2008 2:32PM
kinda similar to those nypd mr bean-esque traffic patrol hooptys. most intimidating (not).
also, anybody kinda get the feeling that the japanese love sticking the word 'super' in front of any word? engrish at work i guess. eg: super potential, super aguri, supra (a stretch). fun fun.
J3-Colt @ Jul 9th 2008 2:05PM
That looks about as intimidating as the late Mr. Rogers in a cardigan...I guess it's a step above a ninja Segway...
ROOLLY @ Jul 9th 2008 2:35PM
Is can expensive though , ZAP's electric sedan costs about less than half the price of this is.
Seminole @ Jul 9th 2008 3:00PM
If a cop tried to pull me over in one of those I'd run. As long as I keep the chase going for 60 miles or so I'd be home free.
The Talking Hamburger @ Jul 9th 2008 4:04PM
As a 'Seminole', can I gather that you speak with some authority of skirting the law? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
catgirlshyla @ Jul 9th 2008 5:31PM
The Honda Today or the Subaru 360 minipato driven by Officer Miyuki Kobayakawa in You're Under Arrest were cooler.
ZetoSanNi @ Jul 9th 2008 6:02PM
I'd be embarrassed to be caught by this...

Then try not to speed through a shopping mall parking lot or a college campus or even a gated community. They'll be the first ones to buy one of these.
I can remember several years ago a friend of mine got a parking ticket at the local university by a campus police officer in a Cushman. She said that she would have preferred to get a ticket from a cop driving a real police car. She got another ticket for contempt.
