Good looking car!
Like a bigger Jag XF, or Lexus GS.
GM is catching up, but this should have been the 2007 LaHoosis (Invicta, whatever) for them to be the leaders thay once were.
Undoutedly an Impala cousin -- looks that size, the old one was -- so I dont think there is a GM 4 cyl engine for it (so far) You can see it's FWD, not Holden-based, by the front wheel location and overhang.
Now, if the interior is comparable to the Lexus, but with lots of American styling cues (part of the reason to buy American -- who wants copies?) it will sell.
Economical engines are needed -- but dont forget that economy trends tend to last only a fairly short while, so a version with POWER will sell, too.

Its actually smaller than the current LaCrosse and on a completely different platform. The current shares its w-body platform with Impala. The new one rides in Epsilon II, the next evolution of the platform that underpins Malibu and Aura. Its also used in the new Insignia.
GM should offer the 2.4L Ecotec w/6sp, 3.6L w/6sp and for the Super they should keep the 5.3L V8 but tune it to 320hp like it gets in the GMT-900 2WD vehicles. I've driven a 5.3L LaCrosse and despite the torque steer, its a blast to drive.
