VIDEO: Mike Levine attempts to fit himself in the Dodge RamBox
The 2009 Dodge Ram is still a couple months from hitting the showroom floor, but we got a chance to check it out during a visit to the Chelsea proving grounds at the Chrysler media event. While we can't tell you how the new Dodge Ram drives, we are pleased to give you details of the revolutionary RamBox. We wanted to tell you how much we could fit into the bed mounted storage, but all we had was Mike Levine from Pickuptrucks.com. Follow the jump to view Mike as he tries to jam himself into one very confined space. Mike's a skinny guy, so he comes a lot closer to squeezing into the RamBox than you might think.

It's going to prove popular in certain . . . uh hum . . . border communities.

great place to hide those dead bodies so you don't always have to drive the LTD on hits.
...actually seems like a really smart feature. Glad they are doing this even though I am a Ford guy.

He may be skinny, but he seems pretty tall. Find someone a lot shorter and you might have a chance.

That is one feature that is going to be VERY popular at job sites. Now Dodge just needs the construction business to pickup so they can have someone to sell it to...

why not the LS2LS7? 8:00PM (6/28/2008)
Isn't this the same feature that the Nissan Titan has had for a couple years? That the Dodge Power Wagon used to have?
These kinda of storage things in truck bed panels come and go. I don't know why. But I would imagine if there were all that sought after, they'd never disappear.

The Titan's bedside storage is just a panel on the quarter panel behind the wheel. Same idea Dodge has taken it much further, this must be 10 times the space.
why not the LS2LS7? 3:02AM (6/29/2008)
I would say more like 3-4x the space. But either way, it's the same idea. I don't think that messing with the area where you tie down loads wasn't the best idea.

They disappear because real 'work trucks' have many varieties of racks built on top of the bed, which interfere with gimmicks like this. Expect to see this feature dropped for the next gen.

The titan box was VERY small, and down low. about big enough for a tow strap or maybe a receiver hitch. These boxes have as much space a cross-bed toolbox. They're strictly targeted at personal use customers though, since they only come on the Crew cab/5ft bed. I bet someone will even offer a truck cap that will be compatible by the time this truck launches.

I wonder if a dismembered body would fit? This could be a great feature for all those psychopaths out there!

You could easily fit a dead hooker in there. Just go to work with a sawzall first, make it a bit easier.

Right before I left Ford, they started offering this from the factory as a option if you built it for commercial use.

This bedside storage fills in what are ordinarily the widened areas in the bed fore and aft of the wheels - so the remaining bed is a straight rectangle like the old stepside trucks.
Very cool feature for the regular cab and to a lesser extent the quad. But in the crew cab with only a 5'7 bed, losing 6" out of those corners means a tall guy can't stretch out diagonally and sleep in the bed with the tailgate up. (Reason #66 that trucks are great.)
