Provisional 2009 F1 calendar released
While Kimi, Felipe, Robert and Lewis are fighting it out for the 2008 Formula One World Championship, the sport's regulatory body has released the provisional calendar for next season.
Much of the calendar mirrors this season and years passed, however next year's championship will include the new grand prix in Abu Dhabi (tacked on to the end of the season in November), bringing the total number of races up to 19. The French Grand Prix, whose future was in question until recently, is confirmed, but switches slots on the calendar with Great Britain. The United States GP, held in previous seasons at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, remains off the calendar for yet another season.

Seems rather stupid to have an F1 race at an oval anyway.

Uhhh....
You know they have an infield track right?
Oy...
tankd0g 10:37AM (6/26/2008)
They have a partial infield track and it mostly sucked. They belong in Vegas.

Bring back the US-GP!!!!

..but not at Indy! Choose a real track.

I vote for a street course in Vegas... or Long Beach, CA.
RoadrunnerSTi 9:52AM (6/26/2008)
I'd be more upset of not having a USGP if we had any American drivers racing... the fact that America is one of the largest markets for the manufactures racing doesn't seem to bother anyone.... even the manufactures themselves. So whatever...

there was an american driver, Scott Speed, but he was rubbish, crashed a lot
Dax 1:09PM (6/26/2008)
Wow, you think Scott Speed was "rubbish"? Are you kidding me, he did a lot better then his teammate who was fortunate enough to have a team that liked him purely on the place he was born.

BLS's comment = fail

They raced on half of the oval, and half on a road track in the middle of the oval.
I'd rather see a street race (Long Beach, perhaps), or a real road race on one of the great tracks like Watkins Glen, or Road America. Laguna Seca I believe is too tight I believe with not enough grandstands or pit facilities, but using LS would be awesome.

The problem is the FIA insists on certain track standards
($$$$) and the track is on the hook if they don't get enough butts in the seats.

I wonder if the cars will just end up getting snapped in half by the Corkscrew :) Most awesome corner in the entire world
Blixem 11:40AM (6/26/2008)
Best corner in the world depends on what kind of racing is going on. For F1 that's defenitely "la source" at Francorchamps, Belgium. The corner becomes less interesting when speeds drop though. The corckscrew is a fantastic corner for touringcar races and slower open wheel classes, but its totally unfit for an F1 chassis.

I'd say Eau Rouge is the best corner at Spa-Francorchamps, The La Source hairpin is a little too slow for my liking.

Congrats Abu Dhabi. Now Eccelstone get it back here in the states! You're already over on this continent in June anyway!

Pretty soon they will have as many races as NASCAR. The idiots in the imerging economies are more than willing to pay Bernie his "ransom" to stage another boring race on another boring cookie cutter track.

The teams have to be paid an extra fee for any season with over 18 races, and it can't go over 20 races per season.
Though I agree with the cookie cutter sentiment. Damn Herman Tilke must be one boring guy!

Beacuse NASCAR racing in circles is soooo much more exciting and less "cookie-cutter"...The more I watch, the more I like ALMS and Rolex series racing...http://www.americanlemans.com/home/ALMSHome.aspx http://www.grand-am.com/rolex/
