Isn't it nice when everyone gets along? Every year, rather than naming their own selection, several of the largest automotive publications in Europe get together and pick their Car of the Year. A list is compiled of all eligible bachelors nominees, then the list is narrowed down to a handful (usually seven or eight) finalists before the single winner is announced.

The panel, which is composed of 59 judges from 23 different countries across Europe (including six representatives each from France, Great Britain, Italy and Spain), will announce the winner in Paris on November 17. Previous winners include the Fiat 500, Ford S-Max, Renault Clio and Toyota Prius. The organization has now releaved their list of 38 contenders; among those nominated are the Alfa MiTo, Audi Q5, Ford Fiesta, Honda Accord, Jaguar XF and Volkswagen Scirocco. Follow the jump for the full roster.

And the most promising car company based on the number of nominations is...Hyundai. That says a lot for an up and comer trying to win over luxury buyers with the new genesis.

I vote for Mito too. That one is amazing in all respects.
The X6 definitely doesn't deserve to be on that list. But okay.

woah new hyundais at the double! i know the i20 replaces the Getz this autumn, but what is a Hyundai i55?

Here to help out. The article makes it a bit confusing.

FYI - "A list is compiled of all eligible nominees"

      Go Skoda :D

I love that the Renault Megane is on the list even though it hasn't even been spotted yet. Having said that, if the launch goes well that should be a favourite - the last model won it.

Of those cars, I reckon it will go to the Alfa Mi.To - Alfa and Fiat have a fantastic record in the Coty awards, although the Insignia, Megane, Scirocco and Kuga should be up there too.

I am pulling for the Open Insignia even though its not even out yet - is it?
      LoL at their selection.

      Q5? 7 Series?

I'd go with Superb or Genesis, which is not on the list.
So basically to win it needs to seat 2 uncomfortably and 4 very uncomfortably?
      MiTo - my vote
Me too! Or MiTo. Whatever, you know what I mean. :D

Scrap Saturn and give us the Insignia already. I am surprised the Mondeo isn't on that list though.
The Mondeo was on last years list, and came third behind the Fiat 500 and Mazda 2.

I'm intrigued by this list - a lot of cars that haven't been seen in showroom ready trim yet, and some that I'm not sure have been heard of much - Hyundai H1 and i55 for example. I know the i20 is the Getz replacement, but what are those two? The BMW 7 series and Golf 6 haven't been seen yet either.
