Now this is just plain dumb: Radio station destroys Boxster

Sometimes, videos of stupid people wrecking stupid cars is fun. Our destruction-obsessed inner selves even get some guilty pleasure out of watching a really good demolition derby. But when said destruction is performed on a perfectly good sports car, it's no longer entertaining... it's just dumb. And so it's with a deeply saddened heart that we watched a video of a radio station in Finland, which goes by the name NRJ, drop what appears to be a first-gen Porsche Boxster about thirty meters from a crane. Supposedly, listeners voted to destroy the car rather than give it away. There's some mild suspense building in the crowd as they count down from five, but it's all rather anti-climactic after it actually makes contact below. We've dutifully placed the video after the break, but we must warn you that it's just over a minute of your life that you'll never get back. Consider yourselves warned.

why not the LS2LS7? 2:12PM (6/21/2008)
There were several problems with the first-gen Boxster, several manufacturing problems that required an engine rebuild or a short block.

If this car developed this problem, it's value would be near zero. The only way to realize any value from it besides a stunt like this would be to hold onto it for twenty years and then part it out. But who wants to store a car that long?

Stupid comment. The engine issue was only one year. Many others who lose engines for whatever reason can get one from many of the Porsche dismantlers across the country for $4000 and another person would have a great "first track" car.
There were very few issues with the Boxster and Porsches success as the #1 rated car for new owner satisfaction (JD Powers) and most profitable car builder owes very much to that car.
Regardless the wasted parts by this senseless consumerism is sad too. It's one thing to take a sledge hammer to a 1982 chevette with no parts worth having and a good modern car.
The queerness of the music on this video shows what kind of station it is.

Wow. Talk about 1 minute of my life... wasted.
Seriously! It wasn't even that good!

Although I'm certainly no fan of the "Porsche" Boxster, it does seem kind of a waste. But, hey, whatever.

Did Porsche's poor corporate CO2 emissions piss off the Socialists?

If this is to protest fuel consumption of toys of the rich and famous; they would do better to destroy a Bently GT or Mercedes uber S class.
What better form of transportation than a small, lightweight, 4 or 6 cyl. 2 passenger vehicle. We need more of this type of thinking. If they are fun to drive maybe they will cut down on cell phone mayhem.

Meanwhile, none of the cars in the area are half as fun to drive than the car that they wrecked.

Jeremy Clarkson sums the boxster up-(paraphrasing) the only reason you buy a boxster is because you can't afford a 911. driving a boxster is advertising that you weren't as successful as you had hoped.

Especially when you have a PRND in the center console.

Driving a Boxter means that you can look past Porsche's marketing and get a cheaper car with a better chassis and layout that is more fun. I'd take a Boxter S over a Carrera any day.

F Jeremy Clarkson and the Queen of England he rode in on. It's that kind of mindless elitism that makes me glad to miss Top Gear.

Even the 911 Turbo is offered with a slushbox.

Yea but clarkson is a rude idiot too. YOu can take that poor logic for anything. People who drive F150 cannot afford F350!?!?!

At least the Scandinavian hair metal was kinda entertaining.

It's not like they're destroying anything awesome.

They needed to have some fun with the Boxster before they dropped it. And, they should have dropped it on a travel trailer with gas left on. Something like this...

Thanks again for inventing Sattelite radio so I dont have to listen to boring DJ's finding ways to be entertaining and interesting which they mostly all fail at.

Actually, this is the exact way how Porsche did the crash tests at the begining - by dropping cars from a crane.
I'm not kidding, there's a black and white photo of the scene in a book on Porsche history I have, unfortunately, the book is on different continent than me at the moment.
