By now we've all seen the myriad number of spy shots showing Acura's prototype for the 2010 NSX running around the Nurburgring in Germany. We've also heard the news that Honda CEO Fukui-san wants his NSX to beat any lap times at the 'Ring set by the Nissan GT-R and Lexus LF-A. Thanks to our friends at BridgetoGantry.com, we now have video of the NSX prototype on a short stretch of the 'Ring, and fortunately the audio quality is good enough that you can hear the wail of whatever's underneath the car's hood. As we've mentioned before, what will power the NSX is at this point speculation, but most reports say it will be a 5.5L V10 with iVTEC producing prodigious amounts of horsepower, somewhere in the neighborhood of 500+. Check out the video after the jump and view our collection of NSX spy shots in the gallery below.

this almost sounds like a traditional clutch. right before the first turn, you hear the car slowing down.. then a throttle blip as the clutch is depressed.. then another blip once the clutch engages... doesn't sound like a 100ms shift to me. sounds like they missed the rev match.
        From the video sequence.

In the initial 0.5 second we hear the car upshift from 3-4, the under braking it downshifts to 3rd (holds that for a short period of time), upshift to 4th for the short straight, brakes/decelerates downshifts to 3rd for the corner, and upshifts to 4th at the end of the video.

        3-4-3-4-3-4

tupark, did you notice the paddles in the pictures? It may be a manual and the paddles are just in the car for future use but to me it sounded like an auto. I doubt Honda has a tool bag that can't shift/rev match driving the ring.

      @ Red

actually an 8 cog DSG/Dual clutch tranny would be a good idea, as long as its packaged into a lightweight unit. Some other manufacturers are easily starting to get sub 100 millisecond shift times, i think the f430 has a 60 millisecond shift time. With shifts that fast, power delivery is smooth and almost gapless. So you really dont loose as much time in shifts that you would compared to a traditional h-gate.

Looks sweet and it sounds amazing. I hope they keep it as small and lightweight as possible.

      3 things:

First, I don't think this car has an 8 speed transmission. Throttle modulation aside, it doesnt sound like the transmission is that closely spaced for an 8. This plus the fact that an 8 doesn't make a whole lotta sense in a sports car (here's looking at you IS-F) practically rules the 8 speed out. Probably a 6 + 7 overdrive, similar to the M5 (the M5 has a short 7th gear though, correct?). I would think this being a Honda vehicle, has a longer 7th for fuel economy.

Second, it was a little hard to tell, but based on the sound of the car going around the corner, the V10 shifts lower than what was indicated on the blurry tach picture from the other day (couldn't see it all, but you could make out at least 9K). I think the displacement on the production car is pretty close to the rumored 5.0-5.5L and not the other rumored 4.5L or whatever it was.

      Third, I want one. lol

An 8 speed automatic would be great if it had synthetic handling-'awd'
1st-50kph, 2nd-100, 3rd-150, 4th-200, 5th-250, 6th-300, 7th-350 (at 9K right? which picture had the top half of the tach? because is looks like 6K is at 11:30 on the dial), 8th-400kph

8:1 ratio spread would be great.

There is nothing wrong with the IS-F transmission, top speed is in 7th gear and you wouldn't use 1st gear around a track like Ring (and toyota doesn't give you torque converter clutch lockup in 1st gear anyway)

From the video, it does look like the driver is trying to keep the V10 'on VTEC', if the engine even has VTEC?
Regardless of the gearing, shifting 3-4-3-4-3-4 within 13 seconds is pretty cool.

        What!? Over 9,000!?

        Sorry, couldn't resist.

Sounds awesome, but I wish it was mid-engine.

Things are about to get exciting!
Both LF-A and NSX sound like Porsche Carrera GT, which is not so surprising considering that they are using 5 liter V10 engines, with higher than 8000rpm redline.
one thing though, it DOES sound like an auto........ :(

        +1

This car sounds amazing. Welcome to the next Japanese performance war. The US and Europe need to step up. This is going to be fun even if I never own the GTR or NSX!
        LF-A

and that sounds like a double clutch transmission.

The carrera GT is odd firing (and M5/6 too), this and the LF-A do not sound odd firing.
I think the LF-A sounds better, but this is a close second. It's going to be a cool car.
That gentlemen, is indeed a V10 engine note....or a reaalaallly high strung v8.

Which mule has the better engine note? LF-A or NSX ?
this pissing contest is always getting more exciting let the good times roll.

also man if such an exhaust note will be available at under $100k it'll definately be an incredibly bang for the buck value, too bad I still won't be able to afford it.
I hope the styling improves though...the body shape looks kind of bland and uninspired which is not going to stand up well against the LF-A or the Gt-R spec V
        • 7 Years Ago
Bland? Bland like a Ferrari F430? A car doesn't need chrome and wings to look good. A tuxedo doesn't need tie-dye to look good. In fact quite the opposite.
They haven't, but all things considered, I would think somewhere around 7:26 or 7:27, roughly.

      @MikeofLA,

The SH-AWD is supposedly reprogrammed to send more power to the rear than the front.
From what I was lead to understand SH-AWD can send 70% power to any single wheel
        • 7 Years Ago
The last posted unofficial time was "low 7:40s", and there was never anything close to 7:26 being posted thusfar.
looks like it rwd... wheres the sh-awd?
