Click above for high-res gallery of the Dan Gurney SS Mustang's arrival

It's been just a few months since Saleen announced its Dan Gurney Signature Series Mustang at the New York Auto Show in April, but the limited edition Mustang has already hit showroom floors. Apparently the car at the show was fairly production ready, although we heard that Gurney spent the last few months helping fine tune the suspension just the way he wanted it. According to Saleen, he still would be if they had let him. In addition to the specially tailored suspension settings, the Gurney Edition also features unique bodywork, graphics and interior as well as lightweight 19-inch wheels and Saleen's supercharged V8 pushing out 465 horsepower. We attended a kick-off party at Galpin Ford in Van Nuys, CA where Dan Gurney was on hand to show off the car and sign autographs. We were also able to take a closer look at the car so we could choose which of the three color schemes we like best, but we're still undecided. A high resolution gallery is below that should help you decide for yourself.

What's the black one on the background there? I like the white lipped wheels. (Gasp! Did I say that I like a Mustang? 'Scuse me while I go hurl....)

Just in time for $5 a gal. gas! We need another high-powered gas guzzler like we need (insert you own statement here)!

I like them. I would never spend as much as they are probably asking on a Mustang though.

the reason there are so manny mustang versions is because everyone has this car, and many people like the car but they do not like the fact that everyone has it, so some people make it better and a different so that you can all get the mustang you like.

This seems to be the best looking of all the Mustang recreations. But it sure isn't cheap. $70,000 plus !!
I recently drove the Bullitt and it's no bullet. I'm sure Saleen took care of that. The Bullitt was about as fast as a G35..for the record. But it sounded good.

Geez, can you limited to one Mustang news per day?

That's not asking too much, is it?
Sorta silly to limit news based on content, isn't it?

"War broke out in Europe today, as..."

"Wait guys, we already had a story about the war in Iraq, let's hold off on this until tomorrow"

        Seriously, they'll post other stories.

That's a cool stang. I would paint the front splitter so it matched the rest of the car.

      Another "special" edition? Really?

Not to say that this is completely flocking useless, but...
      ... It's completely flocking useless.

There are officially more special editions of mustangs than there are actual horses.

Everyone says that they are so tired of reading about special edition Mustangs (3/4 of witch arn't even put out by Ford) but no one misses a chance to put the same comments on every post.

Hey, guys who don't like the Mustang articles, heres an idea:

Keep scrolling down to avoid the message and don't waste your time replying with "OMG an0thr rustang, total bucket of fail"

I think everybody only WISHES that their car of choice came in this many versions.

I think everyone commenting "omg, another runstang. ford sucks" should stfu. Most of you probably have camaro posters up in your room, the one in your mom's basement. the one you live in. we get it - you don't like mustangs.

Gurney is a actual racing legend. The 1967 Eage F1 car, with his All American Racers and Weslake engine, is the greatest F1 car of all time. And for all of you 20 something haters out there - you may wish to know - F1 used to run the full Nurburgring in 1967. No guard rails, lots of jumps. And Gurney won it that year, over other legends like Jim Clark.

Then, Dan came back to the states and drove NASCAR. And Trans-Am series. Only until Juan Pablo Montoya had anyone who had won a F1 race come to NASCAR.

As for the number (and quality) of these mustangs, it amuses me the internet haters. Ford has a hit car again, just like the first time around. Shelby wanted to do it again (for his own reasons I am sure) and Ford needed performance editions. If these didn't exist, people would be buying GTs and dropping crate motors in them. If Shelby wants to make a new Super Snake, let him. There was a whole cottage industry of Super Snake Eleanor clones out there, so the market is there.

As for this car. This is the best SE Mustang out there. Watts-II link with coil-over. If the mustang haters aren't bitching about too many special editions, they are whining about that live rear axle. Well, this has IRS. And unlike a previous post that mentioned that the Bullitt edition's 315 wasn't exactly shock and awe - this is a Saleen 281 with 465. This car would destroy a 2008 Shelby Super snake (with it's 605 bhp) around the ring.

In fact, this car would probably have the best ring time of any Mustang ever around the ring. This is a sub-8 minute car.

Now, queue up the Ford haters to tell me that a Z06 would still destroy it. Whatever. Your mom is calling you for lunch.

These cars are about honoring racing legends. Real ones. And for that, I would love to have this car.

I'll wait for the Eddie Bauer edition to come out.
I'm waiting for the Aldi edition. That would be a much cheaper buy.

Special Editions of the Mustang go back as far as the car itself. There have always been California Specials, Mach 1's, Boss', Cobra's, GT350-500.

It's nothing new and it's part of the Mustang culture.
