Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Corvette Z06

Yes, it's a slow news day, as many Fridays are. But who's going to complain about looking at new high-res photos of the 2009 Chevy Corvette Z06? Sure, it's not the ZR1, but it's still a damn fine car and for 2009 is getting a few tweaks that might be noteworthy to some. The first that's immediately evident is the Cyber Gray Metallic paint color, which is also joined by Blade Silver Metallic. With the deletion of Machine Sliver Metallic, the Z06 exterior color palette now stands at nine colors. Also new are 'spider'-design 10-spoke wheels exclusive to the Z06, and they look damn good framing those large rotors and red calipers. Less exciting is the new bright surround around the Corvette logo on the hood and redesigned Z06 sill plates, though owners of the '09 model will get a standard power hatch pull-down, Bluetooth as an option and the 10.5-quart dry sump oil system from the ZR1. There's some more new stuff in GM's own words after the jump, but we're too busy looking at the pics to tell you what they are.

PRESS RELEASE

Several trim and content changes are incorporated on the Z06. They include:
  • New, "spider"-design 10-spoke Z06 wheel available in four versions: Sparkle Silver, Competition Gray and chrome
  • Color-keyed door and instrument panels with red and titanium interiors
  • Power-operated pull-down hatch now standard
  • Gray stitching on Ebony base seats (previously red)
  • New door sill plates with the Z06 logo
  • Acoustic package standard on all Z06 models
The Z06 also receives a larger-capacity dry-sump oiling system. It upgrades to the 10.5-quart (9.9 liters) system of the new ZR1. The previous oil system held eight quarts (7.5 liters).

The popular museum delivery option (RPO R8C) remains available for all Corvette models.

I was really hoping that color would stay exclusive to the ZR-1. Personally, I feel that all of the color chips for the ZR-1 should be different from the Z06. If they're going to build a LP car, the colors should be different.

I love this color, but it was introduced on the ZR-1, and should stay with the ZR-1.

I do like the wheels a lot. I really dig the fact GM is sticking to a 10-spoke for the Z06. That is a trend a lot of people don't recognize, and it's a good one too.

I love the Corvette. The interior of this generation is leaps and bounds over the previous and the powertrain is right up there as well. I don't care if the GT-R is a better performer, this car has soul.

Are the wheels just a new look, or have they upgraded the lateral stiffness as well?

The 2.5q oil addition sounds good. Wonder how much oil the C6.R cars run though?

Personally I dont like big engines that are supercharged so I would pass on the ZR1 and buy a ZO6 if I had the chance. I like the natural engine more and these mods make it even nicer than last years ZO6.

I went the opposite route and just got a Lotus Elise. There are just too many Corvettes around here to get any attention at all. Good cars and it was a close choice, but the Elise fits me more in a lot more aspects.
Yeah, the Elise would fit me as well, if I were 3'8". Unfortunately, I will have to choose the ZR1. Though it costs considerably more, I'm 6'6". So, I'll have to get over it. Oh wait, no. I'll have my 2006 SL65 instead. I let another poor soul take the $60k depreciation after putting 24k on it. A steal at $119k. Seriously though, considering a ZR1.

No I live in Portland Oregon. I dont see the rationale behind an extra 20,000 for a ZR1 when the ZO6 is perfectly fine. As I said I dont like huge engines being supercharged. A 2 liter is ok. But the 7.0 ZO6 505hp is music to my ears.

One of the very best sports car values on the planet.
why is it called a "spider design" when it has 10 spokes?

Seems a bit more fitting for an 8 spoke wheel to me...
Yeah.... the wheels look a lot better blurred by motion than standing still.

Also, what's with the off-center shift knob? Was that the same on other vettes? Is GM worried that the driver is going to forget the pattern if it isn't staring them in the face?

All that aside, I still adore Corvettes and would love to have one :)
just noticed that! Yeah, looks stupid. Simple fix for any owner to get a nice MOMO or factory replacment
        • 6 Years Ago
Mine is the same way, it's just the angle of the picture. From the drivers seat the gear shifter plate (the part with the shift pattern) is angled so the driver can see it.

        I like it.
hmm, i think thats an odd angled pic. my 08 Z06 isn't off center like that either.
The "off-center" gear pattern is on 2008 models, too. Not sure when it first showed up.
Looks much better than the previous wheels
      • 6 Years Ago
The wheels are a huge improvement. The BBS style shown on the car previously just didn't look right.

Saw the new color on a pre-production ZR-1 when I took the Vette plant tour at Bowling Green on 6/4. Was so busy drooling over the ZR-1 that I didn't realize it was in a new color...They had at least 4 ZR-1s on the floor in the various test areas just off the light booth at the end of the line where they start them up for the first time...

It kind of looks like matte gray.

Matte gray would be really hardcore.
