VIDEO: Webrides.tv pits Nissan GT-R against Ford GT in Super Lap

The much lauded Nissan GT-R has been out long enough to be pitted against what many consider to be its main arch rival, the Porsche 911 Turbo, by nearly every auto rag. One even threw in a BMW M3 that somehow beat it, and no one's been able to get General Motors to give up a Corvette Z06 to go head-to-head with the GT-R. So what is there left with which to compare Nissan's crowning achievement? Webrides.tv, which produces some of the web's highest quality video comparisons of cars, thought it would be fun to compare the GT-R with Ford's late, great GT supercar. But oh, this isn't just any test of a GT-R against some guy's collectible GT. Both vehicles are owned by none other than Kazunori Yamauchi, the man behind the Gran Turismo series of driving sims. Yamauchi considers the Ford GT to be the most beautiful design in the history of automobiles, and its no slow-poke, either. The folks at Webrides.tv built their own Super Lap track on a stretch of flat asphalt no wider than a two-lane highway to compare the two. The comprehensive way in which they break down the capabilities of each car is a pleasure to watch. Which car won? You'll have to find out by watching the video after the jump. Thanks to Webrides.tv for the exclusive high-res pics in the gallery below.

Actually Road and Track did compare the Z06 to the GT-R. The article is here: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=31&article_id=6594

I'm pretty sure The writer meant ZR-1 - not Z06...

That's a pretty lame track.

Yeah, I wouldn't have expected the GT-R to be at its best on the slow, 1st gear corners. It probably doesn't have the best parking-lot turning radius.
The AWD is best used to pull around high-speed corners.
I'd like to see both these cars on a real road course. A true test of mid-engined downforce vs. AWD. The last few webrides tests I've seen have been lame.

The track is lame? The effin track is lame?
Just because the GT-R doesn't dominate for once doesn't mean the track is lame. Puh lease.

Inteller: I'm not a GT-R fan boy. I have no opinion as to which car is better, or which would get around a track faster. I have no opinion as to whether that particular track favored the GT-R or GT.
But the reality is that the track they set up is lame. They've got a chicane and two first gear corners. That is it. That simply is not a real road course, like Laguna Seca, Mid Ohio, Road Atlanta, etc.

Track? They should have just taken the two cars in GT5 and ran them around every track!

great vid...but the Ford GT is and will always be an amazing car. I'd drive it home. That sound. That V8 sound just tickels the spine!

The guy they have as a driver is really pretty boring and not all that insightful. The "old school is classic"? Well, duh. Torque.tv is far better.
Michael 4:00PM (6/06/2008)
There's a guy with a Ford GT around where I live. It's so awesome.

Ford GT ran a 7:42 at Nurburgring:

Nissan GT-Rs time was debunked:

Hah I would like to see the V-Spec go against a whipple 800+ rwhp Ford GT.
rouse42 5:46PM (6/06/2008)
yeah yeah. the whole rolling start thing again.
dont forget the usa spec suspension bushings.
nissans new claim of 7:29 is with production spec tires.

Welcome to 6 months ago.
The "GT-R used cut slicks" has already been debunked. It was just a mistranslation.
The 7:38 lap was achieved with OEM Bridgestone RE070 tires in semi-wet conditions.

the gtr's time was not debunked. What's written in that article is the same junk that's been spread around since the laptime first came out. A little life lesson for you, just because it written on the internet doesn't make it true. I suppose you wrote a cheque to the african prince in nigeria too eh?
Given the choice I'd choose the Ford GT but that does not discount the fact that the GTR is an insanely fast and capable car. Publications across the board have confirmed this fact and plugging your ears and citing this "reputable" website as your primary source serve only to make you look like an even more blind fanboy than the ridiculous GTR fanboys.
And really.. a 'whipple' 800hp fordGT? Really? must've missed the press release on that official production car.... I'll let you think about your comparison for a while ha. ha.

GT-R achieved the N-Ring lap time of 7:29 using the Dunlop SP Sport tires on dry track
FordGTGuy 6:49PM (6/06/2008)
The Ford GT ran a 7:42 with its stock Goodyear F1 Supercars the GT-R did that time with a rolling start and also by the "don't believe everything you read on the internet" I also read the Nissan GT-R Nurburgring time on the internet should I believe it?
Yes there is a Whipple upgrade available for the Ford GT that makes upwards to 800 rwhp.

@FordGTGuy
TheTruthAboutCars is probably the worst blog site around, and the article proves it. In fact, most of the articles are filled with misinformation and lies.
First, most Nordschleife lap times do the 20.6km run to bypass the Tribüne 13 in order to allow safe access from the old exit/entrance for safety reasons like the GT-R did. Secondly, the GT-R did the 7min29sec run with the cheaper stock Dunlop tires, not 'cut-slicks'.
As far as the Ford GT, its a gorgeous car, and I would choose it over the GT-R anyday, but stop spreading these obvious lies from an untrustworthy website (TTAC).

So this has come down to a war of who puts the most aggressive "OEM" tires on their cars.
I'd pay to see a Viper ACR with some "OEM" DOT R-compounds (why no, Dodge?) go head to head against a GTR.
