Spy Shots/Video: 2010 Ford Mustang GT

Click above for high-res gallery of new 2010 Mustang GT spy shots!
We haven't seen new spy shots of the 2010 Ford Mustang for a while, so leave it to an Autoblog reader to have his camera at the ready when one flies by on the highway. Brandon R. took these pictures on an undisclosed road somewhere in the U.S. (that should narrow it down for you) and tells us that the driver wasn't very interested in smiling for the camera. After he realized that the car was being photographed, the Mustang jockey slammed on the brakes and promptly pulled over, but not before Brandon had taken his pics and recorded video of the Mustang showing off its passing power.
It's all speculation as to what's powering this prototype, but it appears to be a GT model if wheel size and two grille-mounted fog lamps are any indication. Out back are dual exhaust pipes and what must be a rear spoiler all covered up, as well. The hood features a big bulge, but don't get too excited as we surmise it's not to make room for some monster engine but rather keep the contour of the new hood a secret. Studying the front end, we also get a clearer view of the Mustang's new headlights as well as the lower air intake. All in all, Brandon did an excellent job in his impromptu debut as a spy photographer/videographer and we hope he spends more time with the cruise control on and his camera riding shotgun. Thanks for the photos and video, Brandon!
Don't forget to check out Brandon's video after the jump.

Yawn..... Why not just build a coupe based on the Australian Ford Falcon XR8, and rebagde it as the new Mustang.

That doesnt even make a little sense.

Because GM did that with the GTO and it was a failure.

I'm not surprised because most North Americans have bad taste when it comes to cars. No wonder all the cars with nice designs are sold everywhere else but North America.

it's clear you know little about cars.. or americans for that matter.
mustang fans and muscle car fans absolutely love this car, the way it is designed, and in fact laugh at people like yourself who drive rice-burners of any sort.... just look at sales figures.. they speak volumes.. especially in this segment.

What I want to see is a nonShelby SVT Cobra with a 450hp twin-turbo six, IRS and weigh 3300lbs.

One change I'm glad to see is that the old 10 foot tall vertical antenna has been moved to the rear of the car and is now shortened and angled rearward. The new size and placement is much more modern, similar to the 350Z.
Sorry, but the huge antenna has always bugged me on 2005+ Mustangs.

Yeah I can't stand that antenna on my car

It's looking like the headlights are a little more blingy, and shaped much more like those on the current Cobra.
I'm betting they're just going to round the corners off a bit to make the car visually smaller, and maybe switch the taillights around a bit.
I wouldn't doubt that a lot of the subtle changes are aimed at reducing drag and squeezing every last bit of efficiency out of the design.

its looks like it has some cues from the '70 mach 1. Not bad. Just fix the interior. The rubbermade interior is really my only gripe with the Mustang.

"so is that an engine under your hood, or are you just happy to see me?"

Not that the interior is a draw of a muscle car but the refreshed Mustang will be sporting a redesigned interior.
But it is the new turbo V6 and new V8 engines that enthusiasts and myself are most anxious to see.

Probably not too relevant, but the location looks like I17 Southbound, about 50 miles N of Phoenix.

i am guessing 350+ hp for the 2010 model out of the same engine, I would hope if they could increase the displacement to 5.0 with 350 hp would be nice. but with gas prices this high i dont think this is happening. :(

Anyone else notice this thing appears to have 19" rims on it? The largest size factory wheel available on any current model from the base up to the Shelby GT500 is 18", which look undersized beneath those giant fenders. The GT500KR comes with dubs, but that's the only one.
That means either better wheel size options, or this may be more than a simple GT. Either way, it's good news.
