Max Mosley dodged the definitive bullet earlier today in Paris where the FIA president walked away with a win after a secret ballot vote of confidence took place. Of the 169 votes, 103 expressed confidence in the embattled president, who is dealing with the fallout from a sex tape released by the News of the World that showed Mosely being beaten by five prostitutes. 55 ballots were cast against the motion, while 11 were invalid, according to the FIA. Mosley made it clear that he would not pursue reelection after his term ends later this year, something that is sure to make a number of interest groups, not to mention his old friend Bernie Eccelstone, particularly happy.

Mosley's term ends in October 2009, not later this year.

ZOMG Spoiler. I so had this TIVO'd. Thanks a lot.
:)
Speaking of which, when's this tape going to be available for public viewing? I want it.
xpolarx @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:19PM
Gross dude...seriously. There must have been a lot of nazi sympathizers in Paris today.
The Doctor @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:21PM
Wouldn't be the first time.
Mazdamia @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:22PM
It already is available...

It is not without protest. The ADAC, Europes largest automobile club is reviewing its position within the FIA, and the AAA, Americans largest automobile club is said to be doing the same.
The Formula One teams wanted him out before this, so they won't be pleased either.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:53PM
FIA is completely out of touch. This is just the latest example.
Soccer Mom @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:57PM
On the picture, is Max going to another wild orgy to celebrate?
JD @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:25PM
Nazis will be there, too.
Alex @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:28PM
c'mon guys, who doesn't want to be spanked by a Nazi dressed prostitute?
/sarcasm
James @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:45PM
Good. Now SS Ubërfuhrer Max Mosley can complete the ruination of Formula One. Might as well finish what he started.
JD @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:52PM
I was under the impression that Mosley and Eccelstone were pals. So why would Bernie be happy that he isn't seeking re-election? I know I'm happy, but Bernie's thoughts about motorsport and my own don't line up very often.
Disgruntled Goat @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:09PM
At this level it's just a boys club - there is no right, wrong or otherwise. You protect your own so it shouldn't be surprising that even though incredibly poor judgement was made they still vote to keep him in.
Why do you think abysmal CEOs get huge golden parachutes when they totally suck at their job?
Why does any given Fortune 100 board consist of the same board members as most other Fortune 100 boards?
It's all an inbred club where each member looks out for their brother. There's no place for justice or morality here.
halogenrepublic @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:38PM
We all know how he's going to celebrate. Party with the Nazi dressed prostitutes.
Kiiks @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:34PM
This is another reason to watch sports car racing. Aside from the fact Ferrari gets what it wants in the FIA.
Maybe it's all just a publicity stunt to get people to pay attention to the increasingly irrelevant world of F1.
Mi key @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:25PM
@ Alex
I was going to say the same thing.
He made a mistake and at least had some integrity not to run for re-election. Wish some world leaders had that kind of integrity.
Richard @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:19PM
This ( the handling of Max in this affair) is the same type of relativism that lets despots gain power and hold it while they rape their lands and peoples. You know, the old "yes, it is disgusting what he has done, but he's done allright by me so I'll leave him alone."
Many countries - mostly Islamic, I believe - have requested that Max not attend their Grands Prix. At least they respect proper standards of public behaviour...or private behaviour brought to public light.
Max needs to go!
tariq @ Jun 4th 2008 5:43AM
"Many countries - mostly Islamic, I believe - have requested that Max not attend their Grands Prix"
that was bahrain
Richardh @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:15PM
I have a feeling he will be up for reelection next year but maybe Jean Todt will run too
parkergc8 @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:36PM
An FYI: he anounced he wasn't running before the video was released.
I really hate how immoral all of this is. Especially being a racing fan. Maybe racing is immoral?
