2009 will mark the 45th year of production of Ford's iconic Mustang, and while the handsome pony car won't get its skin changed until
MY2010, it will receive some festive badging to celebrate the occasion. The Stang fanatics over at
Mustang Evolution got a hold of a picture of the new badging, which includes a galloping stallion over a horseshoe with the obligatory 45th Anniversary text below. The snazzy-looking four inch chrome badge will only decorate V6 Mustangs, which we're sure won't rankle many future GT owners.
Thanks for the tip, Brent![Sources:

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone celebrate a 45th anniversary.

You haven't been watching the Corvette side of the world celebrate stupid numbers much have ya?
Marketing.... odd year anniversary editions never have much resale.

There hasn't been an odd year anniversary Corvette since the 35th in 1988. Before that there was the 25th Silver Anniversary (which kind of makes sense) in 1978. There was no 30th since there was no 1983 Corvette. Then there were 40th and 50th. Where's the 55th Anniversary 2008 Corvette?

My first Mustang was the "25th" anniversary!... They did it with 35 too! I still have the symbol from my 90 Stang....
Just for the record... I believe all of the Mustangs that have celebrated anniversaries are off by a half a year! .... Respectively!

Remember when... anniversaries were only significant at like 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, etc.

Um, you don't observe your wedding anniversary every year, rouse42? Surprised you're still married. ;-)

Doesn't anybody at Ford know the difference between 45th year and 45th anniversary (which is a goofy milestone to begin with...)?
Jay Evans @ May 16th 2008 9:34AM
No 45th for the GT because the GT wasn't introduced until 1965, which would make it's 45th year 2010. The year of the restyle ;)

The 2009 Mustang Order Guide reads like this:
"45th anniversary year fender badging will appear on all
V6 (including Pony Pkg.) & GT, excludes Warriors In
Pink Package"

2009 will mark Mercurys 70th anniversary. Wonder what it will get! Hopefully a new model or two.
