The London Motor Show is coming up quick and that means Lotus engineers are working overtime to get the Eagle ready for its time in the spotlight. A video of Lotus' new 2+2 doing its thing on the 'Ring surfaced today that gives us a very brief glimpse of some of the Eagle's details. The cloaked prototype's Metallic Persian Blue mirrors are peaking through the camo, and it appears that the tail lamps are remarkably close to the units fitted on the Elise/Exige. The more we look at this oft-spied prototype, the more we're imagining an Elise that's been upsized by about 30-percent. The bulging fenders, low front end and ducktail spoiler all lend credence to that assumption, but we somehow doubt that Lotus' designers would be that lazy. Regardless, we'll have to wait another couple of months before we get an eyeful of the Eagle.
Hit the jump to check out the video and get up on all the details on the Lotus Eagle in our previous post.

One question for any purpose built sports car today. Can it lap the 'ring faster than a CTS-V?
Always loved Colin Chapman's offerings, still cannot figure out the direction of the modern day Lotus.

Its a Lotus not a Cadillac. It will most surely keep up with the CTS V if not trounce it thoroughly.

Sound's like a dumb question to me.

Guys, lots of very respectable sports cars have slower times than the CTS-V. Even the Lotus Exige is 42 seconds slower. Historically, Lotus is biased more towards nimble, autocross type handling rather than power. Lotii will shine in any track with lots of fast transitions. I have seen CTS's (non-V) autocross and they lay down respectable times but look heavy going round the course while Lotus style cars make it look easy and graceful. Watch the CTS-V video on the 'ring and you see lots of open road where the CTS-V's 550hp will be banking loads of time against the Lotus.

I believe this is going to be one devilishly good looking car when the camo is finally taken off. I just hope the production version has a tougher tone to it, it seemed to be missing that oumph.

I disagree... I think this is one of the ugliest cars I've seen in a long time. Those giant, square corners make it look way more bulky than it needs to be.

7:24 or bust!
LloydChiro @ May 15th 2008 4:52PM
Is it electric? It seems really quiet.
xpolarx @ May 15th 2008 4:53PM
Don't get me wrong...I love the Elise and this car looks like it'll be a hell of a contender...BUT...it's hard for me to get excited about a car when its tire-noise is louder than the exhaust. I mean...I know it has a Camry engine in it, but there has to be a way to get a better tone than that.
Derek @ May 15th 2008 5:38PM
"Exhaust by Sawzall" will cure that ;)
xpolarx @ May 15th 2008 11:09PM
Ha...indeed it will.
Torrent @ May 15th 2008 5:06PM
That's really quiet...
Golfa @ May 15th 2008 5:56PM
boringly quiet. suspension looks a bit bouncy too. yawn.
Justin @ May 15th 2008 11:56PM
Guess I'll have to do an ls4 swap in order to get a real sound out of it and still keep some respectable mpg.
Mirko @ May 16th 2008 3:49AM
If you upsize an Elise by 30% you end up with a long wheelbase S-Class, right?
sanjoy Alexander @ May 16th 2008 5:38AM
so when can we see this hot car in a bond movie?
Steve in TN @ May 16th 2008 10:49AM
Even though they have a big muffler in the Eagle, the tire noise is amazingly quite. The handling is phenomenal. What do you expect - it's a Lotus.
