It's no secret that we're passionate about cars, and we're pretty sure you feel the same way. We're also big fans of the silver screen, especially when a great car or truck is a big part of the plot. The movie mavens over at Rotten Tomatoes feel the same way, and they've compiled a list of the top 50 movie cars in the history of motion pictures.
The list is chock-full of classics from movies like Bullitt and Vanishing Point, but there are also a lot of hidden gems, like Pepe the Little Mule from Romancing the Stone, or the 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe from Mad Max. One omission that we would have like to have added was Gary's red Ferrari Mondial from Weird Science, but while we could argue forever which vehicle should rank where, we'd say this is a pretty darn good list. We've posted Rotten Tomatoes' top five movie cars after the jump and some of the classic movie cars in the gallery below, but it's definitely worth checking out the entire list. RT even added some great honorable mention vehicles, as well. Thanks for the tip, catgirlshyla!

Any list that doesn't have the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters or the Batmobile in the top 5 is immediately disqualified.
Blake @ May 15th 2008 12:43PM
Agreed.
Benfolio @ May 15th 2008 3:09PM
Any list that has a pic of the '80 Turbo Trans Am listed as the '77 from the original Smokey and the Bandit film earns a ride on the FAILBOAT as well.

I think Eleanor should have been higher. After seeing Gone In 60 Seconds (the new version), who didnt want that car?
pacman @ May 15th 2008 11:59AM
I just saw Eleanor in Pittsburgh the other day. It had to be a knockoff but it was an awsome knockoff. Even had the red nitro button on the shifter. It was a spot on reproduction and even had a "Gone 60" license vanity plate. It was one of the best looking cars I have ever seen. I wanted to stand around and wait for the owner to talk to him about it but I didnt have that much time to waste. It was freaking sweet though!

70's Eleanor > 2000 Eleanor.
Way of the Future @ May 15th 2008 12:02PM
great list! BTTF is one of the best movies of ALL time, but I did notice a lot of Tom Cruise movies on there, a little biased maybe...there should have been a special place for KITT (i know its movies, but the Knight Rider Two Thousand is one of the most iconic cars ever)
Esprit bird @ May 15th 2008 12:07PM
Bandit?
J M C 3 @ May 15th 2008 12:07PM
Where's good old Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
Travis @ May 15th 2008 12:14PM
do you people actually read the list? chitty chitty bang bang, Echto-1, the Batmobile, and Bandit are all listed...
Chris @ May 15th 2008 12:14PM
Where is the LandMaster from Damnation Alley?
At least it was functional. Damn thing actually use real hardware, broke through a cement wall and continued driving. Hell it even worked on a lake.

Any list of movie cars that doesn't have the Mercedes 450SEL 6.9 out of Ronin is worthless.
wylin923 @ May 15th 2008 12:26PM
i think the Initial D panda colored AE86 Toyota Trueno (corolla) should be an honorable mention... as it spawned a whole category for emo kids to be different sliding around in k-mart parking lots.
TMC @ May 15th 2008 12:51PM
Lane's Camaro only got #47? WTF!
That should have been top 10. Such a sweet ride.
And @Kevin, agreed!
ckm @ May 15th 2008 1:13PM
What about the Dodge Challenger from Vanishing Point or the Ford Mustang from Bullit? Two of the most iconic cars ever.
This is a pretty worthless list, really, obviously not put together by people who actually like cars.
The Dukes of Hazzard Charger? A terrible movie, the Charger from Bullit would have been a better choice, or the Firebird from Smokey and the Bandit.
Or the Ferrari 250 GT California in Ferris Beuller's Day Off?
SunByrne @ May 15th 2008 1:17PM
Uhh, ckm, did you actually bother to go read the full list? Every single one of the cars you mentioned is on the list.
ckm @ May 15th 2008 1:30PM
Nope, don't need to read the full list. If the Dodge Challenger from Vanishing Point and the Ford Mustang from Bullit are not in the top 5, the list is worthless.
Those two cars are so iconic their manufacturers have made modern day replicas to capture their mystic. Show me ANY OEM replicas of any of the cars in that top 5 list. I didn't think so.
rush @ May 15th 2008 1:39PM
Next thing you know, ckm will be claiming that Batmobile is not iconic because no one mass produced the car.
Will @ May 15th 2008 1:52PM
Thank God the Bluesmobile made the list.
Josh @ May 15th 2008 4:51PM
I absolutely loved that car...
