Forbes lists the Top 10 Fastest Fictional Cars

Employing research that they certainly did not get from AOL Autos, Forbes is at it again with a list of the Top 10 Fastest Fictional Cars. One of the things we find odd about the list is that there are a number of cars included that you can actually buy or make pretty easily, like James Bond's Aston Martin DBS or the General Lee. That, and a lot of cars for sale today are as fast or faster than some fictional ones on the list.
Yet the strangest thing on the list has to be that Lightning McQueen, he of Cars fame, has a 750-horsepower V8 but takes 4.5 seconds to get from 0-to-60. Disney, come on. It's no wonder Lightning had self-esteem issues.
We won't tell you what No. 1 is, but it goes 800-MPH and runs on Energon, which, sadly, Chevron doesn't carry. Click the link for the full rundown, and check out the list of honorable mentions as well, which includes the Gran Torino from Starsky & Hutch and the G-6155 Interceptor from the Spy Hunter video game. Thanks for the tip, Benjamin!

Curious. Wouldn't the Delorean from Back to the Future be the fastest? It can finish the race before it starts.

Stupid comment - yes. Stupid list - yes.
Derek 5:48PM (5/15/2008)
Yeah, but it also seemed to have a bit of a struggle to reach 88mph...

What, no mention of Automobili Cyclops?

??? Where did they pull those top speeds from? Are they fantasy times from the film/TV "history" or just completely made up?

I HATE all of the stupid Forbes car lists, and their awful web site and lame interface. But this list is really scraping the bottom of the f-ing barrel.

Not really knowing but does a NASCAR stock car really have a fast 0-60 time? I mean those things are geared for top end not 0-60 or quarter mile times right?

Yes--if anything, Lightning is embellishing his 0-60 time.
Popular Mechanics published a comparison test between a production Chevy Monte Carlo and a then-Winston Cup Monte Carlo race car in 2002. Although a bit old, the basic specs of the Sprint Cup cars haven't changed much, and that car, with ~780 bhp, went from 0-60 in 6.2 seconds.

Ahh. Fascinating fact.
I was about to say Lightning McQueen had been hitting the Hagen-Dazs pretty hard, but yeah. I guess not.
geo.stewart 6:39PM (5/15/2008)
The Wraith. that ppg paint job and aero body had to be slippery and fast.
I'll eat the spare tire if that thing couldnt do 180-200 per movie.

You talking about the Dodge Turbo Interceptor?

2.2 Trans Four OHC 8 valve I4 (2198 cc / 132 cid)
400 Horsepower @ 7000 RPM
300 lbs of torque
0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds (estimated)
1/4 mile: 12.9 seconds @ 104 mph (estimated)
Top Speed: 194.8 (observed speed - Road & Track Magazine)
harribert 7:08PM (5/15/2008)
a stock 1970 Charger could have never hit 200, not with a 4-speed, not with that brick-like aero, and most definitely not with less than 400bhp.
Forbes is not a car magazine, people. Obvious much?

That's what I was thinking. Maybe the ones they actually raced in Nascar but not street ones. I find it hard to believe that something as crude as the old charger could have almost the same top speed as the crafted in a wind tunnel modern z06
Mike 9:24AM (5/16/2008)
Thank God someone said it!
"Given that an unmodified '70 Charger, one of the greatest muscle cars ever built, can hit 200 mph, we estimate Dom's ride to be capable of 220, good enough for fourth on our list."
I doubt a stock '70 Charger could hit 150. I don't care what gearing you have - stock or not - you won't hit anywhere near with those aeros.
Dave C 10:10AM (5/19/2008)
It is true that a stock Charger won't hit 200,that is exactly why Chrysler came out with the Dodge Daytona And the Plymouth Superbird,Same cars mechanically with areo modifications. They were available to the general public for purchase so they could use them in NASCAR. And it would do it if you could find a nice long road and be crazy enough to try it.
Tim 7:24PM (5/15/2008)
They also forgot about the car that Charlie Sheen drove in 'The Wraith' - a machine built by dodge and PPG Industries.
