Click the image above for more hi-res pics of the Ferrari Concept 2008We realize that not everyone will agree with us on this one -- passions seem to run highest over the cars that the fewest number of people will drive -- but if the
Ferrari California looked like this concept, we'd put down a deposit right now. Once someone else gave us the money to do so.
Sure, from the A-pillar forward is pure Maserati, and there's no way a front intake like that could or should make it onto a Ferrari. Still, it's a good looking front end, and we don't mind design elements going up as well as down. Besides, a couple of keystrokes can get a proper Ferrari nose in place.
But from the A-pillar to the rear... those are the kind of aggressive, subtle lines we like in our Ferraris. Which is not to say we don't like the California -- we just like this a little better... A coupe, please. That color.

good car, bad ferrari.
botched attempt to capture ferrari design.
its a nice looking vehicle but definitely more Corvarati than Ferrari. tailights are about all that made it over from Ferrari

Sadly I think it is a Ferrari and its sad to say that they can't design a unique looking car anymore, at least this model. There could be copy write infringement with this model.
Eek @ May 15th 2008 1:04PM
It's obvious what the chop is based off of, but this is the first "Ferrari" I've ever wanted to buy. That thing is beautiful.
ugg.tryptophan @ May 15th 2008 4:18PM
its not photochop, it's an original design that uses elements of the new Califronia but still looks like a Maserati (which isnt a bad thing)
kevjohn @ May 15th 2008 1:06PM
I will officially go on the record by stating that this is NOT an ugly car!
jg @ May 15th 2008 1:10PM
best looking Corvette since the Stingray.
pmalik @ May 15th 2008 1:10PM
That looks phenomenal... much better than the California
J @ May 15th 2008 6:02PM
I second that verbatim. What a knock out!
It's sleek with large fenders up front ... pure athletic power exudes from every inch. Just look at the beautiful sculpturing surrounding the air intakes.
I'd love washing this car as much as I'd love driving it!

Somebody in Italy got a new copy of Rhino3D...
I believe the more upright nose/grille harkens back to various 50's racers and not their, uh, adopted brother, Maserati. As well, Massers used Bertone a lot, while this looks all Pinninfarina.
DCragtop @ May 15th 2008 1:28PM
hmmm. that'll stand out in a sea of other over-priced exotics. Looks very Tesla meets 350Z meets everyother design of late and a light pole on a back country road. I say build it!
mk @ May 15th 2008 1:30PM
Are you kidding me?
This has all sorts of just random surface changes.
Good design is much more simple than this, and that is what makes it hard.
none of the curves and lines flow or terminate gracefully, and there is just details for the sake of details. No thanks.
And why are the doors so damn long? If the doors have to be that long, they should extend forward, not behind the seat. Doors that long won't open very wide at all, and if they are that far rearward set, you still can't get your legs and feet out of the footwells.
A knowledge of function, both mechanical, aerodynamic, and ergonomic needs to underpin design, otherwise it just looks like... well this.
Matty @ May 15th 2008 2:12PM
I don't see why the entire car has to be that damn long. It's nice looking, but there is no way you'd be able to build this, put it on the road, and be able to drive it the way a Ferrari should drive.
LBuzzer @ May 15th 2008 2:36PM
What mk says.
Also, where would the engine be? The front hood is way too low to allow anything in there, and the back area is not long enough to a longitudinally mounted engine. Transverse, maybe, but still.
This is better than his God-awful Lambo chop he did a while back, but again, it's too much of an extrovert design to age well.
No sale for me.
bakka @ May 15th 2008 1:31PM
Charming. Very charming.
Torrent @ May 15th 2008 1:34PM
I bet this is just a modded corvette.
Farris @ May 15th 2008 1:34PM
The front clip looks kinda Lotus-y, but I like it!
Js @ May 15th 2008 1:43PM
Ok.. I do like it.. Shorten the nose slightly...make the crease from the intake before the rear wheels equal to the one flowing from the intake in the front fenders and make the headlights slightly more aggressive by sharpening a few lines and..... I'll take one too please...
Brad @ May 15th 2008 1:47PM
Looks like the futuristic hybrid offspring of a GTO and a P30.
Which is kinda nice for me since the P30 is my choice for the best sounding car of all time.
Brad @ May 15th 2008 1:50PM
Sorry I should say P3... gots a little of the dyslexias on the internets with the googles today.
