We've been following the developments surrounding the V10-powered R8 for what seems like eons. But today, we received the most definitive proof yet; engine-bay shots and a video of a white prototype shot in Florida. According to members of AudiWorld, a few V10 mules have been handed out to current, and supposedly trustworthy, R8 owners for evaluation, sporting oval exhaust pipes and a revised fascia. While that's a rather unconventional move on Audi's part, it's proof that the automaker is getting ready to launch the new RS8 (or R10) in the near future.
Hit the jump to hear the V10-powered R8 stretching its legs.
Long long time ago (in galaxy far far away), I actually saw a video of the R8 that was released right around the time of it's debut as a concept car. So, I think it had to be one of the first videos of the R8.
I saw it on video google.
The video looked bootlegged because the picture quality was bad, and I don't know if it was intended to be released for the public.
Anyways, in one part of the video, they gave some stats on the new car: It was to be a V-10 biturbo generating 610 bhp. So, perhaps Audi designed it as such, and these "early" versions of the car are just detuned versions of what it should be; just to milk people.
Later, the video was taken off google, or I just can't find it anymore.
If I were rich enough to own this car, the first thing I would do is take it slumming through inner city Detroit just to show the have-nots what I have.

That is an absolutely amazing sound.
Won't this cannibalise Gallardo sales?? Not that I care too much.
Jim @ May 14th 2008 7:52PM
How anyone can think this is even midly interesting after listening to the jet turbine Porsche 928 is beyond me.
captainslow @ May 14th 2008 8:26PM
Jim is completely correct.
Bow down to the 928

Does anyone else notice the mis-shift? Does this mean it will have a traditional manual trans?
fbxcore @ May 14th 2008 3:48PM
Yeah I heard that crappy shifting too..so probably.
HeyHuub @ May 15th 2008 2:53AM
Since the normal R8 has a manual i don't see why this shouldn't have one.
Proscriptus @ May 15th 2008 10:14AM
When he shifts from reverse to drive, it clunks into gear with a very e-gear-ish sound.
Red @ May 14th 2008 3:47PM
thumbs up for the clever title.

What the hell is that car doing in that neighborhood?

Richardh @ May 14th 2008 4:03PM
I agree thats the first thing I noticed as well was the crappy neighborhood.
Get out and Push @ May 14th 2008 5:39PM
What every car enthusiast should be doing. I'd gladly live in the slums to be able to afford driving around a R8, especially one with a v10.
Berto @ May 15th 2008 5:25AM
Quintile disparity my ass.
Cole Mitguard @ May 14th 2008 4:02PM
Its just like... a melody, telling me that Im here, and Im going to smoke you....
r8runner @ May 14th 2008 4:10PM
That car sounds so much stronger than my current R8... I have the "R10" on order as a replacement for my current car, can't wait.
rsfourever @ May 14th 2008 5:10PM
