The Hertz Shelby GT-H hit the auction scene with a bang back in 2007, as the first black and gold drop-top sold at Barrett Jackson for a hefty $250k . In the past year, the powerful pony cars have had to endure some wear and tear from reckless renters, and what's likely to be a much lower price of ownership. Between 75 and 100 Shelby GT-H Convertibles are scheduled to hit the block at Kruse's 17th Annual Auburn Spring Motorfair from May 29 to June 1, 2008.
The special edition Mustangs will still likely cost a large premium over the average Mustang leaving rental duty, both because of its Shelby origins and limited production run of 500 vehicles. But in return you get a speedy convertible with truly unique looks. If you would like a Shelby GT-H Mustang, but have no plans or desire to head over to Indiana, you can even bid for the weekend racer of your dreams right from the Kruse website. PRESS RELEASE:
Shelby Mustang Auction Information
PARK RIDGE, NJ - 05/01/08 - The Hertz Corporation is proud to announce that it has contracted with Kruse International and Dyno Marketing on an exclusive basis to manage the public auctioning of Hertz's inventory of its Limited Edition 2007 Hertz SHELBY GT-H MUSTANGS. A strictly limited run of 500 2007 GT-H Convertible Mustangs were produced by Carroll Shelby exclusively for Hertz. Hertz will launch this program by offering 75-100 Limited Edition 2007 Hertz SHELBY GT-H MUSTANGS at Kruse's 17th Annual Auburn Spring Motorfair to be held on May 29 - June 1, 2008 at the 480 acre Kruse Auction Park in Auburn, Indiana.
According to David Stolt, Hertz's Senior Director of Car Sales Operations, "Hertz offered 40 Mustang GT-Hs for sale at the 2008 Kruse / Dyno Marketing Race Car & Sports Car Auction this past January in Concord, NC. The demand was overwhelming and all of the cars were sold. Kruse International and Dyno Marketing did a fantastic job and Hertz has decided to expand the program and launch a major Shelby Mustang GT-H Convertible sale at the famous Kruse Auburn Spring Motorfair this May." Stolt also said that "Hertz commissioned only 500 of the Shelby Mustang GT-H Convertibles and they are an extremely popular but hard to find vehicle in the Hertz Fun Collection. Therefore, we handle countless inquiries from renters and collectors who want to own that car. Shelby Mustang GT-H Convertibles are rarely available for purchase by the public and Hertz believes that its relationship with Kruse International and Dyno Marketing will provide Shelby GT-H enthusiasts with a fair chance to buy one." It was also noted that the buyers of the Shelby GT-Hs will be provided with all ownership documentation and membership in the official Shelby Registry.
Kruse International is the largest collector car auction company in the world and we are very pleased that Hertz has chosen to work with us and Dyno Marketing again to offer these wonderful, truly limited edition collector cars for sale to the public" said Dean Kruse, President of Kruse International. "We believe that as many of the Shelby Mustang GT-H Convertibles as possible should be gathered for sale at the same time so that potential buyers and fans will have a great experience. Bidders will also be able to bid live online during the auction. If you have ever wanted to own one of these rare "instant classics" you MUST attend!" The 17th Annual Auburn Spring Motorfair is one of the premier annual auction events, featuring 1,000 outstanding collector cars in the Auction, swap meet, and car corral. This event is held at the 480 acre Kruse Auction Park on May 29 - June 1, 2008 and is fun for the whole family. For additional information concerning the auctioning of the 2007 Hertz Shelby GT-H Convertibles, including how to register to bid, please contact Malinda Blue-Barfield at (800) 968-4444 x 242.

What a novel idea - Ford Mustang for sale.
Dennis @ May 13th 2008 10:21AM
Sweet, more high priced Ford Junk!
John Johnson @ May 13th 2008 10:24AM
Lol sweet let's buy automatic rental cars that people rent just to abuse.
Just hang a sign on them. "Free to good home".
rar @ May 13th 2008 10:59AM
I wonder how many sets of back tires these cars went through as rentals.
ambientFLIER @ May 14th 2008 12:33AM
Not many. Traction control can't be disengaged when you rent them. However, car and driver found an easy way to do it.
Chad @ May 13th 2008 10:26AM
Mustang haters rejoice!! Something to complain about!
Way of the Future @ May 13th 2008 10:26AM
its abused, its a rent a car, but its limited and mustang junkies will buy it for over sticker. its just how it is...just leave them to do it amongst themselves, because no one else in their right mind would do it.
NOreasonY @ May 13th 2008 10:41AM
oh god...i cant wait to read the comments on this one....nice car but def wouldnt buy a rental
Brad Barnett @ May 13th 2008 10:53AM
I wonder how many people said that back in the late 1960s. A 1966 GT350H sold for $39,000 at Barrett-Jackson in 2001. This year, one sold for $167,500, and there was a steady increase in value of all Hertz Shelbys in between the sale of those two.
Chad @ May 13th 2008 10:59AM
You really don't buy a car like that as a daily driver and therefore it doesn't matter that it's a rental. It's something you'd restore for collectible value. I wouldn't be personally interested but I'm sure others will be.
Adam Marcello @ May 13th 2008 10:59AM
While I do think this is probably the best looking mustang package its still an automatic and a rental car. I know I beat the crap out of rental cars when I get them.
steve.ricken @ May 13th 2008 11:25AM
So are they auctioning them because they aren't being rented and won't be rented this summer due to gas prices?
TriShield @ May 13th 2008 11:38AM
The real GT-H Mustangs are much sharper than the retail market Shelby GTs. If I had the cash I would certainly be interested in scoring one of these as I think they are one of the best looking Mustangs made. The fact that most of them will have some dents, scratchs and visible wear only adds to their character for me.

No big news, they normally ran a few every month or so though the Manheim Auto Auction. Sounds like somebody paid Hertz to be the "Exclusive Auction" for the 2007 batch.
RLQ @ May 13th 2008 5:39PM
I think the Hertz Shelby GT-Hs looks better than any of the retail models.
PJ @ May 13th 2008 6:35PM
Or, and sorry to be a buzzkill, you could buy a Shelby GT and get the exact same vehicle for $35K.
Or you could buy a Mustang GT, add the Shelby GT's off-the-shelf Ford Racing performance parts, and get the exact same vehicle minus the Shelby badges for
