When I was a little kid I wanted to be like my big brother. I would dress the same as him, go to the same places as him, do the same things as him... It never really worked because, at the end of the day, I never looked anything like him. So while I doubt I was the only one, I had one eyebrow raised when Alfa Romeo set out to mimic the design of its show-stoppin', range-toppin' 8C Competizione with a new entry-level model. A mass-market hatchback designed to look like an ultra-exclusive supercar? Well Alfa arguably achieved just that with the new MiTo, and to prove that point it's graced us with a whole gallery of new images of the two siblings side by side. The kid brother may look that much more junior in juxtaposition, but the resemblance is uncanny. See for yourself in the gallery by clicking the thumbnails below.

i really hope the mi.to comes to the u.s. for those who can't afford and 8c because that thing is gorgeous and so is the interior
MemphisNET @ May 12th 2008 8:15PM
Wow!! The design translates very well!
Torrent @ May 12th 2008 8:17PM
They really did make the MiTo look good next to the 8C

Its funny how a company that makes mainstream cars, compacts mid size etc, a company that competes with Ford etc...can pull off selling a 100K plus car but OMG have VW sell the phaeton and everyone automatically assumes its a POS....
Joe K. @ May 12th 2008 8:40PM
It's a simple reason... Execution.... Nobody freaked about the GT40, Viper or NSX...
Level @ May 12th 2008 9:01PM
Have you ever sat in a phaeton or drove one? To me the phaeton cost what its worth...but you are right execution,They can only get away with it if its a sports car but not a luxury car....
Xcountryflyer @ May 12th 2008 9:08PM
More so than buying a high-performance sports car, luxury car buyers also are factoring in prestige. What is the point of buying a luxury sedan/coupe if nobody knows how much you spent? That is a large part of what premium car buyers value. It is like the people in the slow lane impeding traffic in their V8 BMWs and MBs--they clearly bought it for the status and not for the driving performance. They could be serviced by buying a 6 cylinder.

has anyone ever considered that maybe the veyron should have been branded as a VW?
think of what that would have done for the company.
4agze @ May 12th 2008 8:53PM
i really like the interior, like the CF dash
chiohmann @ May 13th 2008 12:18AM
I still think the interior doesnt hold up to the competitors: Mini Cooper S, Fiat 500. Sure, the carbon fiber looks nice, but the interior design itself looks dull and mundane in my opinion.

Seriously beautiful vehicles. Simple, elegant lines, but it's very nice to see how aggressive the language translates with the Mi.To.
Aprime @ May 12th 2008 9:49PM
Aggressive? What.
Thing looks passive.
pedro @ May 12th 2008 9:21PM
If they managed to produce a MiTo based coupe looking like a pint sized 8C, would be in my garage as fast as I could write the deposit check. The MiTo is GORGEOUS, but a 20-30k coupe with those lines?? SWOOOON.
Toy Yoda @ May 12th 2008 10:20PM
Hey Xcountryflyer
That's me in a V8 hogging up the slow lane. At least I'm in the slow lane. But, hey, I would love to go faster, but cops in my neighborhood like to give out tickets to fancy looking fast cars.
Gets old... well, at least it's a convertible and I can enjoy cruising around. :)
chiohmann @ May 13th 2008 12:34AM
If your that much of enthusiasts and rich, buy another 'proper' sports car and enjoy it on the track. no offense.
xboxlivemonkey @ May 12th 2008 10:28PM
wow if it wasnt for the title i swore i thought it was a 3 door mazda 3 , i got so happy : /
halogenrepublic @ May 13th 2008 12:40AM
Instead of being part of the family bloodline, MiTo was adopted!
b.unit @ May 13th 2008 12:55AM
it looks like a hyundai accent hatch
John @ May 13th 2008 6:54AM
Looks good. Not a car I would probably buy...but as a long time alfa fan (from the 60's and 70's)
Best efforts like this should be rewarded with strong sales.
Give them good hp ratings so they are FAST! Anything less and the car will languish if it comes to the usa.
