The iPhone has been a hit since its release and Apple has ratcheted up the excitement the last couple of months, as the recently-released software development kit for the phone is already bearing fruit. In a short period of time and on what we'd guess is a very limited budget, one group of developers has designed a cool racing game called Raging Thunder that features quality graphics, a number of cars, and steering that utilizes the iPhone's revolutionary accelerometer. While the game isn't exactly groundbreaking, it demonstrates that we should see some very cool racing games when big-time developers really start to focus on the iPhone. Follow the jump to see the sweet-looking Raging Thunder in action.

As a longtime iPhone user, and a Windows Mobile user for 3.5 years before that, I have to agree.

My iPhone's jailbroken, unlocked, etc. and kitted out with the latest programs from everywhere, but the variety of apps is nowhere near what's out for Windows Mobile.

Gaming on the iPhone is beyond pathetic. Puzzle games might be fine, but no real games (read: FPS, Driving games) work without buttons or a D-pad. I have all the emulators installed (NES, SNES, Genesis, PSX), and they're all pretty useless due to the onscreen keys ("virtual buttons").

The accelerometer is cool and all, but for FPS or driving games, it's not a good idea. The two demo 3D FPS apps currently out for the iPhone, iPac3D and Yeti3D, are very hard to play with either onscreen or accelerometer controls. Tilting the whole unit (which also limits your view of what's happening) is nowhere near as quick or precise as buttons (even virtual ones).

One of the things I miss most about my WinMo phones (besides Bluetooth, which the iPhone can only use for mono headsets, nothing else) is the lack of FPS and driving games. Even if there were any, there's really no way to play without any physical controls.

What I'm hoping is that someone will come out with a gaming attachment for the iPhone, with a D-pad/joystick and some buttons, but the iPhone SDK doesn't allow hardware access, so that's probably not going to be possible.

Have you ever used an iPhone?... didn't think so. I had a blackjack, and that things software was so retarded, useless and difficult to use, that after paying $300 and using it for only 3 months, i got an iPhone. I love it.

An ipod touch that doesn't work as well as an ipod touch but makes phone calls. Keep it. I have an actual cell phone for making phone calls and sending sms.

        exactly, iphone = for you

but tech people use phones for so much more. (ie: tethering via bluetooth to laptop for 3g broadband data connection anywhere)
