Definitely a rendering, in my view: those reflections are just too perfect (and there's no license plate, in the front at least, either - what would be the point of sending a car somewhere if it weren't to drive it around?).

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HOT about this garbage. It looks quite hideous actually. Either a 3D model rendering or photoshop of modified M3, it's quite boring and uninspiring. M3 is definitely awesome as is, but not when all tweaked, streched, squashed, with ill proportion and non-sense details. Obviously, not really a car designer who worked on this photo. The artist probably uust thought it would be cool to make a midengine car with everything you see on M3. Yuk. have some sense of style and design, and create something BMW actually might produce, not some joke to be discussed over the lunch at BMW design studios.

Note the resemblance of the gas cap to the R8, the upper-mid half of the side to the M3, the lack of stitching on the interior seats, and the rendering artefact on the front end. All indications say that the photo is a combination of photochopping and 3d modelling. A pretty well executed one, nonetheless.

I think it looks pretty descent but why don't they just leave that M1 name alone. That was a special car for its time and like the Pontiac GTO why bring the name back in something that bares little resemblance.

It's a stunning piece of Photoshop work.

I say that only because the car shown makes no sense. It looks mid engined - the scoops aft of the side windows, the length of the rear end.

But at the same time, it has a full-sized front end, one that could handle an engine.

That's a clear contradiction. Therefore, I say it can't be real.

But it's a great bit of Photoshop-ing.

Just because the backgrounds are the same doesn't mean anything. Those reflections are real deal. I'm betting this isn't a rendering, but i'm also betting this is far from a production car.

First off, Futurama.....you must really have no sense of what automotive style is. Whether this is a render or not, to call such a car "hideous" is just ridiculous. I mean you don't have to be a fan of anything BMW has ever made to appreciate this design.

I'm not sure if it's the real deal or not but the thing is absolutely gorgeous and my hat goes off to anyone who could have made such a fine photochoped image.

If it is real. For the love of all that is holy BMW please build it.

1. Why the hell is there a powerdome and cooling slits on the front hood, is the tank that hot and huge!!!???
2. The entire front is one massive single piece of steel as there is no visible seam between fender and front bumper.
3. What are those red things?
4. Cut&Pasted R8 side wing and filler cap
5. The presence of another filler cap left to the r8 filler cap
6. The turn indicators on the bumper are crudely painted in and look unrealistic
7. Can't really tell if there is a Bmw logo on the wheels
8. The Dash is from an R8

designforfood, hopefully you're not a designer because you don't have a very good eye. Besides the badly angled little hood vents and the even worsly angled front end, the "reflections" on the hood have been completely blurred to make up for the fact they didn't match with other parts of the car. Also the amount of airbrush lines are hard to ignore. Heck, the rear wheel well doesn't even look very real and many of the curves aren't physically possible. Also, if this was a 3-d rendering or real car, we'd see another angle or 2...

BMW should just steal the design and build it.

there are a few absolutely TERRIBLE things that make it EXTREMELY clear that it's a chop job

- the headlights are 2d (especially the outer lamp)
- the fuel cap section is very sloppily cut and exhibits a rapid and illogical change in color (plus there's another fuel cap behind it in the body)
- turn signal between wheel and front: no seams, just a little blob of color
- the driver's side of the front is blurrier at the edge than it should be, and that whole little section has an unrealistic shadow

don't get me wrong... it looks like a pretty solid concept, something i wouldn't be ashamed of driving at all lol
