Pur Sang: the Sang Noir. Word is the newest variant has been created to be a tip of the hat -- that would be
"chapeau!" in French -- to the Bugatti Atlantique 57S. It gets a slightly different front grille with matching side mirrors, black headlight surrounds, exclusive wheels, and an interior dressed in what looks like electric orange. All in all, the car appears to share nothing with the Atlantique other than the name Bugatti and choice of exterior color. But it's not like that would keep you from buying it, would it?

Is there a point to this overweight POS?
Matty @ May 4th 2008 6:44PM
Name a more impressive car. Please don't tell me you're another one of those Ariel Atom cheerleaders who want adult go-karts. The Veyron is truly amazing. It's an engineering feat while having (IMO) excellent stylings, plus you can actually drive it comfortably. Also, it's performance speaks for itself.
That said, I like the unpainted carbon fiber with the black painted aluminum body panels. I don't like the interior, but I'll never sit in one so my vote doesn't count.
CarbonBlack @ May 4th 2008 6:50PM
The veyron is made to be an amazingly fast, and excessively luxurious. Yes it is heavy, but lightness isn't what it was ultimately made for.
Do I love the car-Hell no
Do I like the car-a little
Do I respect the car-Hell yes
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 4th 2008 7:11PM
A more impressive car? McLaren F1. Maserati MC12. Ferrari 430 Scuderia.
And that's even before I count cars I don't like the looks of (of which the Veyron is one). Then I can count the Ferrari Enzo and FXX and various Pagani Zondas.
The Veryron is impressive if you're impressed by high HP sleds just because of their HP. But hey, if I worshiped HP alone, I'd be a fan of the NHRA.
But I don't. And I don't find the Veyron impressive.
chad.dawkins @ May 4th 2008 8:54PM
The Veyron is special because through sheer engineering they did something that it was not supposed to be able to do. A car that looks like that with "only" 1000 hp shouldn't be able to go 252 MPH.
Not only can it do it, it can do it stably. Based of sheer ingenuity it's the best car ever made IMO. It is the ultimate GT car.

Is there a point to this OVERPRICED POS?

Making you jealous ;)

"Name a more impressive car."
This car is NOT impressive. Spectacular, amazing, remarkable - yes. But not impressive. I could build this thing too if I had the resources Bugatti had.
Koenigsegg, SSC - those are impressive.

Why should a car with "only" 1001HP (er, 987HP) not be able to do 252mph?
Reader @ May 5th 2008 1:27AM
As LS stated, the McLaren F1 is much more impressive. It gets about 20mph less with almost half the HP and practically no electronics. Oh, and it's more than 10 years older too.
HeyHuub @ May 5th 2008 7:07AM
THe Veyron IS impressive.
A Koeniggseg, SSc Aero etc, is not. Those are just carbon fibre shells with powerfull engines in it.
And people who have actually driven the Veyron, Mclaren F1, Koenigsegg, Pagani etc also say the Veyron is the most impressive.
Arnob @ May 5th 2008 9:34AM
"I could build this thing too if I had the resources Bugatti had."
Wow, what an amazingly useless thing to say. You could build any car any company ever made if you had all their resources too, sheesh. I find it interesting that most anyone not 'impressed' by the Veyron usually ends up sounding like petulant child who's jealous about not getting a toy they want.
chad.dawkins @ May 5th 2008 1:37PM
The Veyron was designed backwards(even the guy who designed the F1 says that). They drew the car, gave it an arbitrary HP number and an arbitrary top speed. The design of the Veyron isn't conducive to a high speed car. You ever notice how the CCR/X, S7, SSC and even the F1 all look very similar to each other?
That's because they were designed in the wind tunnel and they helped make the car cut through the air easier. The Veyron was just designed which is why it's drag coefficient is so horrible. So they had to devise ways where the car would lower itself, cut off vents, have spoilers that adjusted itself, and other things in order to let it generate downforce and/or make it more aerodynamic.
Even after all that you have to consider that the Veyron is a 4000 pound car. So they made a car that is fat and unaerodynamic outperform anything else. That is why the Veyron is so impressive. It's not simply putting a big engine in a light car. People have also said that it is dramatically more stable than any other car at high speeds.

Never imagined that Bugatti would take on the same marketing strategy as Ford does with the Mustang.
meshies @ May 4th 2008 6:31PM
LOL. Exactly my thoughts. Its beautiful tho.
Flea @ May 4th 2008 6:43PM
well, I can imagine a *liiiiiittle* more R&D money went into the Veyron than into the Mustang, so it's kinda understandable Bugatti plans to offer the Veyron into tons of different shapes and colors before actually moving on to a new model.

rofl, like adding a special edition will help people spend that million bucks burning a hole in their pockets.

The original was a limited edition. They had to change it or break their promise in order to sell more.
Torrent @ May 4th 2008 8:04PM
why not the LS2LS7?:
Well still not many people will buy this. That's my whole point.
Cole Mitguard @ May 4th 2008 9:43PM
HAHA, I had the same thought, especially after reading the GT500KR post earlier. I just wonder how all those billionaires who rushed out to be the first to buy are feeling now that there Veyron is just "normal" and when they pull into the parking lot of whatever Billionaire club they happen to be a member of, its possible that someone else is driving a car even rarer and MORE expensive than theres. That has to lead to a feeling of disdain, and more importantly, a shrinking sensation in the pants.
