First off, its mad accurate. Its how I find alternate routes getting in and out of Boston. I can take nearly 15-20 minutes off a 45 minute commute by finding roads that I would have never thought to turn down otherwide.
Secondly, however, this feature has been on google maps for a long time now- well over a year at least! Idk why they are just making it a story now.

They are making it a story now because they just integrated the Street View into Driving Directions. Previously, it was just there to look at.
