Confirmed! Bureaucrats have no sense of humor, funny stop signs nixed
Inhabitants of Oak Lawn, Ill. apparently have a hard time understanding the meaning of the large red octagons posted on street corners through the city. So in an effort to get people to actually stop, the city installed smaller signs below their larger, legal counterparts to get motorists attention while providing them a half-hearted chuckle. The extra signs correlated with the "Stop" written above, with slogans including "and smell the roses," "right there pilgrim" and "means you're not moving." While residents and the town's mayor found them funny, the Illinois Department of Transportation was less than enthused and claims that the signs violate the Fed's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. That means that federal funding for projects in the city could be put on hold, so $1,700 worth of signs were pulled down. In a word: lame.Gallery: Funny Stop Signs

Um, YouFaceTheTock...I think you need to reread it, it says "you're" not "your".

What are you talking about? They said "you're not moving." If you're going to complain about people's grammar, make sure they're wrong first.

shouldn't our Govt. be doing something else?
I can think of a nearly endless list

Too bad the Illinois State Bureaucrats are morons.

And you got some of those moron Illinois bureaucrats running for president....
Berto 10:52PM (5/02/2008)
@John: FAIL. Bureaucrats are from the Executive branch of power. A Senator (like the one from Illinois running for President) is from the Legislative Branch of Government, therefore not a Bureaucrat.
Remember, Government is split into three branches:
Executive
Judicial
Legislative
Legislative branches (Senators/Reps) make laws like the one mentioned in the post, then bureaucrats (executive) implement and manage these laws, and the Judicial makes sure they are Constitutional and applicable.

Obama is cut from the same cloth as the others. Don't kid yourself. Just shouting change doesn't mean he is not a politician/bureaucrat like the rest. At least the bureaucrats read the laws that are passed. Most congressmen and Senators don't even know what's in the bills they are voting for. and that goes for both sides of the aisle.
Aaron 3:52PM (5/09/2008)
Frank, do you mean to tell me that you think Obama is a bureaucrat simply because he says he isn't, or because he's a politician? Either way is flawed, it would be like saying that Hillary Clinton's a man just because she's running for president... okay, maybe not the best example. It's like saying that Obama's white for the same reason. After all, they're all cut from the same cloth, aren't they? I mean, because every single person in your mentality must be a complete stereotype in order to exist.
JW 7:38PM (5/02/2008)
Too bad that this didn't go through. Most people don't stop anyways, they just slow down and "ease" on; basically yielding.

That's the way it should be.
We should start looking at stupid traffic laws and use common sense when designing our infrastructure. We could all save 30% or more if it wasn't for misplaced stop signs, un-triggered/poorly timed stop lights.
Slyk 7:59PM (5/06/2008)
You're missing the fact that people (most who have the same attitude as yourself) are careless, or error prone, and THEY are the reasons these stops signs and stop lights are necessary.
mcwizard 4:28PM (5/06/2008)
Wrong, I've had one accident my whole life (some old lady to busy staring at the leaves to realize there was a car coming), and I consider myself to be a very aggressive driver. There was a stop sign for her, now if it was a round-a-bout we both would have to yield.
A lot of frustration gets built up when people are forced to stop and a stop sign when no cars are around, or lights are timed just perfect so you have to stop at every f'n one of them whether there is cross traffic or not.
It's because of people like you our system is fuked, blindly following what you think is the right way, because someone told you traffic lights save lives. I call BS, learn to drive, keep your eyes moving, be aware of the others cars and whats happening around you. Some studies have shown that with the absence of traffic controls, accidents actually decrease.
