New England Patriots receiver Randy Moss starts NASCAR team
America's two most popular spectator sports – football and stock-car racing – are about to cross paths as the New England Patriots' star wide receiver Randy Moss has announced plans to launch his own NASCAR team. Perhaps after losing Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants back in January, Moss is really starting to think about what to do with his time after this whole football thing runs its course.
His new team named Moss Motorsports will begin competing at select races in this year's Craftsman Truck series in preparation for a full-on assault in the 2009 season at the same level. Details like drivers, sponsors and an engine supplier have yet to be announced, but Moss, who has long been involved with urban youth programs, plans to incorporate his racing team into his social projects.

Wow. That was kind of uncalled for.
If it were Michael Vick starting a NASCAR team, I could almost - almost - see the rationale for that comment. But in reference to Randy Moss, I don't see the point.
Anyway, in regards to the story, I don't see Randy putting much more than his name on this venture for the time being. And in any case, the bigger question will concern who's going to drive for his team - that will determine whether or not this experiment amounts to anything.

I dunno, I thought it was amusing....
Anyway, cool that he will be somehow utilizing it for youth programs. The more of that we can get, the better.

Moss Motorsports is a company that sells parts for Miatas and RX-7s, if I am not mistaken.
That would be funny to see Randy Moss in a Miata :)

You mean wearing a miata.. right.. that would undoubtedly be the result!

That fact that you have a popular African-American athlete trying a business venture into the sport might go that much farther in diversifying the NASCAR audience, albeit minutely at best. But at least it's something--credit given for trying something different.

Whoever his top driver is will lead the first 199 laps of the Daytona 500 but end up last at the end.
