Beijing 2008: Brilliance BS4 wagon is good looking... no BS!

Brilliance BS4 sedan is a pretty good-looking car, so it stands to reason that its wagon variant would be easy on the eyes as well. Unveiled in Beijing, the BS4 wagon is indeed a snazzy-looking, ostensibly practical machine. Power comes from a 1.8L Mitsubishi G93 four-cylinder making 134 hp (100 kW) at 6500 rpm. The BS4 wagon also comes equipped with an alphabet soup of safety feature acronyms like
"ABS + EBD + EDS" but word association games involving "Brilliance" and "safety" only call to mind the
BS6 Euro NCAP debacle (since
corrected, allegedly... but still). The bad news continues, as a recent
Inside Line review of the BS4 sedan concluded that the car was generally lackluster at best. Based on that, we can probably assume that the same shortcomings afflict the wagon. It
does look nice, at least.

Lancia grill!
Or Rover grill...Brilliance isn't owned by SAIC, is it?
Xcountryflyer @ Apr 21st 2008 5:53PM
It is attractive. It is hard to create a wagon without looking somewhat similar to other wagons out there. There are some Mercedes and BMW design elements, but at least its not a gratuitous copy.

Would a 4G63 swap easily into it?
tuna @ Apr 21st 2008 5:48PM
Shouldn't be a problem. It's got a pretty long hood and the transverse mounted 4G63 doesn't require a lot of space.
Leaf @ Apr 22nd 2008 10:16AM
Waste of a 4G63.
Adam @ Apr 21st 2008 5:55PM
Looks very much like a BMW.

It kinda should....Brillence is spearheaded by BMW....brillence actually makes some 5-series sedans in their factories.
Dazza @ Apr 22nd 2008 12:26AM
Hardly surprising since BMW are partnered with Brilliance in China who produce the 5-series there.

For a Chinese design, it is an improvement, but not something that I believe would make a big impact on the auto markets in Europe, Japan, or the U.S. At least it's not an obvious copy of another company's design.
SPG @ Apr 21st 2008 6:01PM
A very nice looking car, I can see the influence of some German designs in there.
However the influences I can see are no greater then any other car company uses.

I think I'd rather go to a funeral than go to this Beijing car show. These cars are awful!!!!!!!
fuzzy @ Apr 21st 2008 6:06PM
BMW grill with Mercedes headlights and Audi wheels.
Good job, China.
RJ @ Apr 21st 2008 10:44PM
ALL cars of the same era contain some similarities.
Good job, retard.
k.w.a @ Apr 21st 2008 6:08PM
the front is a little too Mg/Rover-ish for me, but overall i like it. front- end aside, it looks as good as the mercedes wagon
ugg.tryptophan @ Apr 21st 2008 6:13PM
if this doesn't crumple like their past efforts, Brilliance could be the next Hyundai
Matt Keller @ Apr 21st 2008 6:26PM
It's attractive in the way the Suzuki Forenza is attractive; It takes no risks, and offends no-one.
I wish I could say it was like Toyota, but they've gotten quite ugly over the past few years.

I think I'm going to order some chinese tonight.
Yum.
zapperdude60 @ Apr 21st 2008 6:49PM
from the a pillar back it looks like a merc e-class wagon
zapperdude60 @ Apr 21st 2008 6:50PM
actually, everything other than the grille looks like an e-class
jgp @ Apr 21st 2008 6:51PM
Yeah, and the grill looks like either a 1990s Lancia or a 200s Rover.
