General Motors has just put a video featuring the designers of the new
Buick Invicta concept discussing their new creation. The video is part of a series of "Studio Stories" episodes that GM has been producing over the past year. Exterior design lead Justin Thompson and other members of the team talk about the approach they took to create the concept that debuted at the Beijing Motor Show today. Although the Invicta is labeled as a concept this sleek four door is thought to be very close to the LaCrosse replacement that will probably debut sometime next year. The Invicta carries over a lot design elements from last years Riviera concept that also debuted in China and was a joint effort between members of GM's North American and Chinese design teams. If the next new Buick actually stays true to this concept, there may be hope for the brand yet. Check out the video after the jump.

What does he mean "carries over a lot of the design elements of the Riviera"? If that were the case I'd LOVE this car...but the front ends are VERY dissimilar, with the Invicta featuring none of the very cool and sculptural design elements of the Riviera, especially as regards the bumper and air dam. BIG disappointment after almost 2 years of waiting for a fresh, dare I dream radical new Buick sedan as was rumored by insiders who said we'd be "shocked" when we saw it.

This car needs to be made. The only change needed is...Door Handles.
zamafir @ Apr 19th 2008 6:50PM
It looks 100% production ready so I'm guessing (hoping) it will be.

Buick has made some big strides in distinctive design in the last 5-years. Hopefully the new designs don't scare all of the 60 + over to Toyota.

Gorgeous, proving GM designers are the best in the business, and American design whether it be retro or futuristic is the best.
Ligor @ Apr 19th 2008 2:30PM
this is by far the best I've seen out of GM
Even the CTS is not this good looking, adn that interior is wesome too
But please keep it RWD, or at least go AWD all the time, don't ruin this with FWD please - i swear i'll come and trade in my G35 for it
Make an Impala out of this as well, and you have a kick ass winer
and i'm not s GM fan by any means, right now I would go Infiniti all the way before Ieven took a second look at GM
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 19th 2008 2:57PM
If I had a nickel for everyone time someone on the internet said "If X product were Y, I'd buy it", I'd be a rich man.
Admit it, you're not going to buy a Buick, even an RWD one.

I enjoyed that video more than I thought I would.
Beautiful car though.
icetraxx @ Apr 19th 2008 2:37PM
What a beautiful car. +1 to the American & Chinese design teams.
Torrent @ Apr 19th 2008 3:40PM
Yeah. I didn't expect styling this good. This even looks better than the CTS.
Arent our Avatars eerily alike?

Nice car...i see some design cues from the concept camaro the rear end and the headlights ?...This is too nice of a car just for old people...isn't that who buys Buicks...old people....
cameron42985 @ Apr 19th 2008 2:52PM
Just don't call it LaCross.
Dave @ Apr 19th 2008 3:37PM
What's the big deal about a Buick not having RWD? Obviously, no one who buys this car is going to be concerned about putting 300 horses to the pavement. So why not go with the more efficient and practical FWD?
Not every car is about performance.
Ekow @ Apr 19th 2008 4:03PM
FWD is NOT more efficient....
Greg @ Apr 19th 2008 7:48PM
This car should have FWD and AWD which should serve the target market very well. Dave is right in that not every car is geared toward performance. This should still be able to handle the 3.6 or 3.6 DI fine along with still be a quiet, smooth, luxurious car. The Lacrosse's competitors aren't going to the 3-series; they will be the Avalon, MKZ and ES. This should be a hit, just like the Enclave.

its a nice looking car, but am i the only one whos getting a little frustrated that gm isnt offering any quality small cars, i mean the astra is nice, but it doesnt have the design language as this buick or the cts coupe, or the soltice coupe which look more modern, refined
ugg.tryptophan @ Apr 19th 2008 5:48PM
oh look a new LaCross ;P
Doug Danzeisen @ Apr 19th 2008 8:19PM
Love it! I have owned and own a Buick and would buy this.. Keep the Invicta name- trash the LaCrosse misnomer!
kgm777 @ Apr 19th 2008 8:40PM
GM is back from the dead. I always knew the Americans could build better cars (and airplanes) than anyone else. Kill the name Lacrosse and call it the Invicta. Now I'd like to see the next Lucerne/Park Avenue/Electra 225. My vote is for the latter.

Revive the "Deuce and a Quarter"!
