Overheard in AIM: Neff brings the perspective

Nunez's ride this week...
We Autobloggers chat on AIM all the time. Imagine a text-only version of the podcast, only 100 times more scatterbrained (who knew this was even possible?) and you'll get the general idea. So anyway, here's an exchange between The Neff and myself from earlier this afternoon, in which he hits me with a solid uppercut using his Brass Knuckles of Perspective. I think they may have bits of dead Alero cast into them.
Neff: Chris Grant from Joystiq got Sony to send us a review copy of GT5 Prologue
Neff: Arriving Tuesday
Nunez: You are such a d**k
Neff: Okay Mr. RS4
Nunez: HAHAHAHA
Neff: At least the car in your driveway right now is real
Nunez: I want to drive a PRETEND RS4, too!
Let the online play begin. What Neff doesn't tell you is that he -- at this very moment -- is writing up something that makes the (undeniably, ridiculously badass) RS4 press car parked out in my driveway seem like a Kia Optima. But you'll have to wait until Monday to read about that. Oh, and as it happens, I can't drive a pretend RS4 in GT5 Prologue when it arrives this week, anyway. I'll have to make do with the real thing.

Livin' the rough life, eh, fellas?
I jest, (out of jealousy), and hope you keep up the good work! I have to wonder though, what in the world can make an RS4 seem like a Kia Optima, aside from an F-22 Raptor testdrive or a weekend stint with Milla Jovovich's naughty bits?

Are you writing up a review of the RS4? I just bought one two months ago, and it's my dream come true...except for its unbelievable thirst. I sometimes think I actually can hear it gulping gas when I drive.
My final car choices were:
1. The new M3 coupe (nice but every single 30ish yo dude with a subscription to C&D will own this car, and there's already too many 335's on the road)
2. AM V8 vantage. Costs $30,000 more and is cramped, and I was shocked with it's lack of power (no pulling power in top gear). But god is it beautiful.
3. Lexus IS-F. I went to see one in person, and it was so garish I just walked out.
4. Merc C-63, essentially unavailable when I was looking, and I don't really dig any merc except the S class.
I've never been so happy with a purchase. The RS4 has goo-gobs of power, the engine becomes a superhero around 4500rpm. It's beautiful (in my opinion), and yet understated at the same time. The interior can't be beat, there is no argument, Audi does this right.
I'm anxious to see what car will reduce this to the status of KIA Optima.

Yeah, I shoulda thought of Godzilla. I guess that would do it. I wouldn't put it all the way down to a kia optima...maybe an Accord Coupe.

Doc, I will write it up, and it is everything you say it is. That engine, while in operation, is like an ongoing series of miracles.

It's gotta be the R8

They've already done the R8 before I think. It's gotta be the GT-R.
Damon Lavrinc 3:53PM (4/12/2008)
GT-R is done. Check that off the list.
Think bigger. Much bigger.
Sean Flanagan 3:58PM (4/12/2008)
Veyron?
Matt 6:53PM (4/12/2008)
What else could it be BESIDES the Veyron?
Also, I hate all of you. I want a Bugatti. :(
chad.dawkins 7:12PM (4/12/2008)
They didn't do the R8 yet and if they did I need a link! I'm going with the R8.
Chase 8:35PM (4/12/2008)
Yeah ... if its a Veyron, the Kia comparison would do. I think I just made a little tear for the thought of something making the RS4 look pokey. :*(

Chad,
I can't find the damn article, but here is the gallery, http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-r8-review-preview/613950/
Notice the name of it, 2008 Audi R8 - In the Autoblog Garage.
Alex Nunez 10:50PM (4/12/2008)
@Seminole. You're right. That article's still coming...

Oh! Did he get an exclusive test of the as-yet-unannounced Taurus SHO? We know how John loves his SHO.

Unless he's reviewing a Veyron, I can't think of anything that is both bigger than Godzilla, and makes the RS4 look like an Optima.
There are lots of more expensive cars to be sure, but nothing that fits the "significantly badasser" bill.

Mercedes SLR?
Veyron?
Murcelago?
599 GTB?
Really can't think of too many other cars that could come close to making an RS4 feel like an Optima, even if I do think the Optima is alright.

Kia? Kia implicitly implies cheap, so I'd wager a Brooklands, as the aforementioned new M3 and chintzy IS-F don't make the RS4 feel anything like a Kia.
