eBay Find of the Day: Party on with Garth's AMC Pacer "Mirthmobile"

This eBay auction seeks to find out if there are any set of circumstances under which an AMC Pacer is worth the Buy-It-Now price of $8 grand. So far, the answer is no, but there's still a day left. For fans of the movie Wayne's World, this vehicle could offer a unique opportunity to grab a piece of movie magic, as it was built by Paramount Studios as a prop for the Paramount Kings Island theme-park ride, Hurler, based on the Wayne's World series of movies. Wondering how you could be sure that this is legit? Worry not, it comes with a signed letter of authenticity from Volo Museum and the hood is signed by none other than George Barris himself.
No word on whether or not the "SHA WING" Ohio license plate is included in the asking price. We do have it on good authority, though, that the car has never been spewed in. Thanks for the tip, Stu!

George Barris made it? That must have taken a lot of time...

I don't care where that car has been or what it's done. It's still hideous.
And, yes, my family owned one for about 8 months in 1979. The old man traded it in for a 1980 Datsun 210 - another fine piece of automotive craftsmanship.

I loved the Gremlin when it came out, quite futuristic and George Jetson looking for its time!

Yeah but does it come complete with the "Red Rope Dispenser" mounted on the roofliner? It's not the genuine article without it.

my thoughts exactly.

I dont get it. It was built as a prop, so really what good is a certificate of authenticity unless you want to be able to prove it wasnt used in the movie, just a knock off prop for a theme park. Movie magic? No.
Im suprised they took the time to get certain details correct, like the rims, then totally mispainted a simple flame job. You could have bought the real car a few years ago.

I love that movie. But any one could have made the car look like the real movie car.

I hate that fishbowl window in the back. They attract so much sunlight, they turn those little pushpins in the seats into little burning pins of death.

I always heard that the stunt cars in that movie had 5.0 Ford V8s installed. Too bad this isn't one of them.

Simba- Please make contact with you possible. I have a worm farm, and a snowflake in the freezer that looks like Donnie Osmond. I'm sure you would buy them too.

Better to have the "other" car from the second movie, the stretch 6 wheeled limo...

A much better memento from the movie is available on eBay as we speak. http://cgi.ebay.com/Spindle-Art-Work_W0QQitemZ150235374926QQihZ005QQcategoryZ553QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Think we can set it up in the front yard without code enforcement asking for the work permit?

You could make a replica for so much cheaper than the $8k reserve. Those guys from Volo are full of themselves. They had George Barris futher make himself less credible by signing EVERY star car in their collection. That adds maybe a grand total of $5 to the car. My opinion here. Well sold. Not well bought.

Kings Island has never had a ride called the Hurler...that's Kings Dominion in VA. This car was used simply as a display at Kings Island near the viking ship and the racer (sadly, my first job was at K.I. at the airbrush stand directly across from this car...and we had to listen to top gun music all day)
