So I had this dream last night where I'm hosting a television talk show and interviewing Heidi Klum. Only when I look down, I discover that I'm actually a Volkswagen. When I woke up in the morning, I realized it wasn't a dream, it was a television commercial I saw on YouTube. That's right, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover girl, Victoria's Secret spokesmodel and object of innumerable teenage fantasies has signed on to promote Volkswagen.
Actually, we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, as often happens when Heidi Klum is in the picture. (And being a supermodel, she's in a lot of pictures.) The commercial, which comes to us courtesy of our astute tipster Ben, isn't the first promotion this German supermodel has done for the German automaker. Together with her pop singer husband Seal, Klum has also done some promotional work for the new Tiguan cute-ute. But that little detail won't stop you from enjoying the flirtatious video after the jump, now will it?

We didn't think so.

This is a good creative ad campaign. I like these. The Bob Knight one had me on the floor.

Say what you want about VW's vehicles, but their advertising is consistently some of the best in the business. When they were with Arnold, they put out some seriously good ads that captured the feeling of being a VW owner and driving it ‘round the twisties, as opposed to the car’s features. Funny, memorable, emotional, epic – from the late 90’s until 2005, they were unstoppable… But Arnold started to get stale (and one might argue, so did VW). Now that they are under Crispen Porter (who also does Mini ) they’ve spiced things up again, which is good. Sales are improving, and their doing the only thing you can do to combat a negative image: trot out Heidi Klum. Somehow, she makes that busted heat shield in your Passat into one hell of a good memory.

The thing I find odd about the add is they use a vehicle that's 40 years old. From what I can remember about my friend's Bug in high school was that is lacked ABS and Traction Control. Kind of odd they went with a model you can't buy (unless you import one from Mexico. Provided you can still import newly built classic looking bugs from Mexico..?)
Anyway, Heidi looks nice. No argument there.

I agree that it's a bit odd a Kafer Beetle is talking about TC and ABS, but I like the ad. Totally get the choice to use it though, Type 1 embodies the simple fun attitude that VeeDub tries so hard to present in the US, and it can be identified as nothing but a VW. More quality transformational work for them, it's apropos, and may be my fave CP+B VW work so far.

Volkswagen is a German car company, she seems to be connected to her roots!
