Click above for high-res gallery of Nissan GT-R Spec V spy shots at the 'Ring

Those spy shots we showed you yesterday of a higher-performance GT-R have been confirmed by inside sources as the Spec V model, which will both shed poundage and gain power compared to its baser sibling. Weight is expected to drop by over 300 pounds thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber, and as for how much power the twin-turbo 3.8L V6 will make in Spec V trim... some are saying 550 - 600 horsepower, though we think that's a bit optimistic as well as just overkill. These shots show the GT-R Spec V attacking a corner at the Nurburgring, and in the German sun we can see the new front splitter below the grille and carbon fiber rear wing much clearer. The current GT-R's performance has already surprised us all, but it's clear that this is just beginning for Nissan's new halo car.

No matter how fast it is, it's still just an ugly Japanese car!

      @Vo0Ds

I think you mean the N1, that one was white.

And the new V-spec probably ain't gonna be the fastest factory GT-R. There should also be a new N1 or NUR and a Nismo Z-tune.

Not to sound too much like a grumpy old cuss - lest I give myself away - I hope that whoever buys these things has ready access to a race track so that the better part of them won't go to waste.

Sub 3 second? As in a sub 3 second quarter mile?

It may be a year before I ever see this overweight, overhyped, rich boy's Datsun 240Z on the road and I'm already sick of it.

maybe it's running at the same time as that camaro we saw yesterday (or was it the day before?).
i agree with the power rating, seems it is already down-rated, wouldn't take much more. I would prefer that they label it 'in excess of 500hp'.
i can't wait to see one on Top Gear.

Can't wait to see the performance, but let me know when you can get a body color grill cover instead of that cheap looking grey...

Strange they be out testing I would think they would just clone the gt2 and under rate the hp.

I thought a gtr was a more or less 911 turbo going backwards wearing a nissan design suit and shoes? If not then!my bad!I will say Ilike the shoes!suit not so much.
Huh? I'm referring to your poor choice of word "clone". Explain how Nissan is "cloning" the GT2 if you don't mind clarifying your own statement.
Nissan used the 911 Turbo as the performance benchmark during the development of the GT-R but that's where the relationships between the two end. Please get to know some of the very basics of the cars you're talking about before you use the word "clone" next time. Thanks.

Have we confirmed that this is actually going to be called the "Spec-V"? Because all previous GT-R's with that tag were actually the "V-Spec".

"Spec-V" badge only belongs on a Sentra.

This will kill nothin to it!

" I know MT said its running more than 480hp, but I don't think they said how much. "

actually they did say its 507 at the minimum(and its still more than the z6)

        Haha Super Troopers.

Amazing car (in stock form). Can't wait to see the Spec V. Agreed on Bayside Blue, that was always my favorite GT-R color.
