The Avant is hot, but those engine choices are garbage. I'm expecting at least 270 HP from a V6 Luxury car. A 180 HP luxury sedan for $30+K = no go.

Keep in mind that Europe gets different engines then we do in the States.

I would take one. As far as I'm concerned, most North American-market cars are grossly overpowered, impracticaly bodied and lifelessly suspended.
I'd gladly trade something like the Impala SS or Camry SE for an A4 Avant with half, no, make that a quarter of the power.

So you are expecting a 270 hp car form a V6, but since this one has only 265 its no good for you? 5 hp must really make a difference. Mind you that some countries tax cars based on engine displacement, co2 emissions etc., which makes the smaller engines much more affordable.

Considering that the US dollar isn't worth what it was as little as a year ago - it's a reasonable deal.

Just take a test ride in of of the new 1.8l TFSI engines. These little European gas engines are awesome -- sme with the PSA-BMW THP engines. They offer enough low end torque to have about as much fun as with a diesel. Yes, above 120mph those 160hp won't be enough anymore, but many countries already have speed limit.
But with current gas prices you might not go that fast anymore. Yesterday I covered some 250 miles at an average speed of a bit more 90mph (often going 120mph+) and mileage of my "small" diesel dropped below 29mpg. At the pump this really hurts.
