We are inundated with safety reminders every time we get into our cars and turn the key. Your car reminds you to fasten your safety belt with incessant beeps and warning lights fill your dashboard when brake or airbag sensors think something is wrong. But, as the video pasted after the break proves, even standing next to your car can be dangerous under the right circumstances. Dynamometers, or dynos, can be awfully dangerous and are usually surrounded by some sort of guard rail, but not this one in
While our first inclination was to laugh, the reality is that this face-plant could have been much worse. We're glad that the man in the video appears to be alright. Papa!

The link says the video is from Serbia, not Russia. Please read text before blogging. kkthxbai.
Red Star @ Apr 4th 2008 4:36PM
Yep, those license plates are from Beograd (Belgrade) which is capital of Serbia.
Edsel @ Apr 4th 2008 4:14PM
With so many spectators in close proximity to a very dangerous environment, one thing is very clear to me; Serbia lacks personal injury lawyers.

The area is probably painted RED for a reason!! And whats the point of standing in that little side strip, they're not doing anything related to the run.
Serge K. @ Apr 4th 2008 4:23PM
Hey Autoblog,
It's not in Russian, the license plate is Bulgarian. Or are you that poorly educated to just name everything "Russia" that's east of Germany?

BG stand for Beograd which is Belgrade which is capital of Serbia. Not Bulgaria.

It is good to bash someone for making a mistake, and correcting him with another...
Val @ Apr 4th 2008 6:51PM
That part with the plate was hilarious!!! So you think that FRA stands on every plate in france, and all the plates in America start with USA? And not to mention that this would mean that Bulgaria can only support 999 999 vehicles, and you would have to wait for someone to unregister a car to get a new one. Seriously though, bulgaria is a country, not a city, and none of the plates start with BG (as G is not in the cyrilic alphabet), but there is a small blue strip with the european stars that says BG in one end.
andre lavoie @ Apr 4th 2008 11:48PM
uh dude, it says "Serbia" in the article. Are you that uneducated that you cant read?
Red Star @ Apr 5th 2008 12:25AM
"Dude", it didn't say Serbia when the article was originally posted. Serbia part was added later.

I put my car on an above ground portable dyno a few years ago at a car show and they let you sit in the passenger seat while they do the run. I got in and by force of habit, I put my seatbelt on. The dyno operator that was driving my car just kind of laughed and said that we come off the dyno, that's not going to make much of a difference. I kept it on anyway.
Put 164.4 the to wheels with a '92 Civic CX with an Acura Integra B18C1 motor. I miss that car.

Let the lawsuits begin!
It's wrong, to me, that in the U.S. this guy could probably sue the owners of the facility AND the manufacturer of the dynamometer, and win!
Or, worse, the government steps an and regulates dynamometer usage, making them more expensive, and more difficult to use, view, install, operate, etc.
Darwin was right. Sometimes dumb is just plain old ordinary dumb.
That said, I've probably done dumber things...
Red Star @ Apr 4th 2008 4:33PM
Don't worry, in Serbia we don't sue other people for every little thing.
