Sound Bite: Audi R8 V12 TDI LeMans

Click above for more high-res pics of the Audi R8 V12 TDI LeMans
Diesel engines may be more efficient than the gasoline-powered competition, but good old fashioned petrol power has always held a huge advantage when it comes to aural bliss. The engine audio emanating from the Audi R8 V12 TDI LeMans still struggles in comparison to the best gasoline offerings out there, but man does it sound cool. At idle the R8's oil burning, twin-turbo V12 sounds like a Super Duty on speed, but on acceleration the 500-hp powerplant comes alive. When the TDI R8 is cruising at high speeds, its recorded sound is a lot like a speeding jet. Hit the link below to hear the R8 V12 TDI LeMans for yourself. You may never be able to buy an Audi with this most impressive engine, but at least you can hear it.

Sounds a bit like a blender with some ice chips in it. But for sure it sure is the best sound I've heard from any diesel.

WOW. I am searching for words but only "buttery" comes to mind. That thing sounds crazy smooth.

The "jet sounds" are the air flowing over the car as it passes by. Anything traveling that fast would sound like that, even if it were being towed and had no motor.
The actual engine sounds pretty much like a UPS truck. This isn't impressive at all.

My thoughts exactly. Only maybe if that UPS truck was being chased by every cop in the county and the Mexican border was only a mile away.

...and I thought my MZR motor sounded like a diesel.
That thing just doesn't do it for me AT all.

Can't. It's some flash thing or something. In the box that says "soundcheck: Audi R8 TDI". It's pretty obvious, it has a play button.
Note that you need to check each of the 4 words on the right side of the box before play to hear the different 4 sounds. Only "Vorbeifahren" has the engine at song, the rest are just starting and revving it.

yeah, but what engine sound "does it" for anyone anyways? I don't get particularly excited by any motor noise. Now, Monica Bellucci moaning noises is what excites me. :)

"Toy Yoda", your on the wrong website my friend. All the other fellow readers hear lust for cars and women equally. I know few things in the world that can make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end as the new AM Vantage V8 does...

I much prefer the noise of the A5...
Toy Yoda, maybe you have to get out there and listen to these engines while they're propelling you around the track. A car's noise is the only sound in the world that makes me go "whaoooooooooooo."

You know the more I see this car and hear the V12, the more of interest this car is becoming to me.

That actually sounds pretty bad ass under load.
That idle, not surprisingly, sounds like the R10 when they're idling in their garage area.
Kinda hard to tell in this vid, but it does sound very similar

How can you tell a diesel's sound by just revving it?
You need to put some load on it, get those turbos spinning.

Try this. Find yourself a TDI VW 1999 or newer. Toss a P-Flo on it and a TT Tuning TDI exhaust. Turn key... press gas. Marvel at how b@d@$$ 47 mpg sounds...
That soundclip was uber-lame...

I want a car that looks like an Aston, growls like an Aston and "teleports" like a GT-R
