As the pair of specially-prepared Ferrari 612 Scagliettis make their way across the subcontinent in the Magic India Discovery tour, news has emerged that Ferrari plans to enter the growing market there by 2010. The reports emanate from India's Economic Times, which quoted tour coordinator Gabriele Lalli as saying that Maranello was preparing a sales and marketing network in the country with an eye towards opening there in 2010.
Currently there are a few dozen Ferraris in India (aside from the promotional 612s) that were purchased from Ferrari's dealership in Singapore. Sponsoring the Magic India Discovery is Tata, whose close relationship with Ferrari's parent company Fiat may come into play as the Prancing Horse gallops towards India. Until then, we've compiled a big gallery of more than 50 of the latest high-resolution images from the Magic India Discovery tour, which you can view by clicking on the thumbnails below.

Wow, maybe it's true! I heard that Ferrari was farming out some of it's R&D work to Mazda. The Mazda symbols painted on the 612 hoods seems to reflect that!

I am surprised they are not there already. Having visited India on banking business, there are some seriously rich folks there.

It's fast, and I'm sure it is awesome to drive, but I find it hard to get excited about the 612, looks fairly ordinary.

This is great news, unfortunately, there's a reason why cars like this aren't very popular in India, congestion & very poor roads & traffic laws. Going 100-110 kmph in India feels like 100 mph here. I can't see Ferrari suspensions lasting more than a few weeks out there. What they need is India are a few cars like the EVO X & the WRX STi.....Those'll fit right in!!
As for the congestion, you have to see it to believe it. Not to mention, you're sharing the road with other cars, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, gasoline & bicycle powered rickshaws, various animal-pulled carts, bicycles, etc......
