I hope that they weren't tickets that they had bought.

hmm.... i don't want to sound too much like a business school student, but if they DID buy 35k worth of tickets, the amount of time and effort wasted in doing so could have been spent working, increasing the 35k principal. investing it would have brought them up to a level where they could afford a better car after not too long. after all, you could buy a brand new, fully loaded h3 for about 40k...
