Lamborghini ceases production of Gallardo Superleggera

The king is dead; long live the king. With barely a whimper, the short-lived and short-geared Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera has slipped quietly into the night. Its truncated production run yielded just 172 examples – 10 in white, 34 in gray, 37 in black, 45 in yellow and 46 in orange (each of whose owners thought they were being original) – ensuring that the Superleggera will become a collector's item years from now. The departure of the Superleggera comes hot on the heels of the introduction of the new LP560-4 and makes room for a new stripped out Gallardo.

i think it's more like, "The prince is dead, long live the prince." The Gallardo SL was awesome, but the 430 Scuderia has its number.

I agree... Ferrari > Lambo in my mind... with these 2 at least... the Reventon might be a whole 'nother story...

Reventon? That's more like God than royalty (or devil, with its aggressive, almost evil, shape)

Damn, and I was just about to buy one. lol

Its just like Jeremy Clarkson said; Why would you want a Lambo with things taken away? Its not like it has some kind of racing pedigree or anything. Shouldn't a special edition Lambo have rocket boosters and a coffeemaker?

That just makes it all the more special. I also prefer Ferrari but I still love these cars

Was this thing as quick as the new LP version? The power difference isn't that much, and this had to have been lighter. Anyone know?

The F430 may be as fast as the SL but it's not as fun! The sound exhaust note of the SL is really something.
The F430 is more docile IMO.
As for the Reventon, Lambo will release the SV next year. It will be even more powerfull than the Reventon (and will be cheaper by a good margin). It seems that these days once a car is release, a faster one is not far behind.

There's no evidence the Gallardo SL won't depreciate just like the other special-edition "collector's item" Lamborghinis over the years. For those who are enamored in the Gallardo, I highly recommend you visit a local exotic car broker and sit in an early car with at least 10k miles. These cars don't hold up well.
