Last week at the New York Auto Show we had trouble getting a cab in front of Javitz Center, but somehow the cats at Garage 419 were able to shut down 11th Ave. long enough to race a couple muscled-up Porsches. Pitted in a street racing battle are a Farnbacher Loles GT3 cup car and a Farnbacher Loles Cayman GTR. Both Porsches aren't lacking for power either, as the rear wheels pushing each Stuttgart stud are tested to the limits during the race and at the post-event dueling donuts.
Three minutes of rubber-burning action is available after the jump, including a decisive winner in the main event. Make sure to check out the wild fish-tailing from the GT3 at the start of the race. The camera guy positioned between the two racers either has serious cojones for staying still or he has no idea how close he was to taking a Porsche to the mid-section. Thanks for the tip, j.f.!
Bryce Miller was driving the GT3. He was third in points standings in the 2007 Rolex Grand Am series driving that very car. So, the answer to your question would be no. It was 30 degrees and the tires were freezing cold, making traction near impossible.
Okay....Farnbacher Loles did a stunning job on these two pieces of art shown here. I've actually seen the very same GT3 Cup at their garage in CT. Don't stop what you're doing...you guys are f&@%ing PHENOMINAL! As for Garage 419...shame on you for drag racing two ridiculously-tuned track cars. Doing so is sacrilage...that is, you guys didn't even scratch the surface of these cars' full capabilities. I love Porsche, but I cannot respect anyone who promotes drag racing these two cars, and especially not anyone who does pointless burnouts afterwards. You might as well have been driving mustangs. FAIL!
spot on comment . do a drag race with a track car is pointless. garage 419 again fail to make good use of the amazing machines they put their hands on. ow and those donuts! if you want to do donuts on a 390 bhp highquality sport car,at least do it right. a eighteen years old japanese kid driving a sprinter trueno with no mods could do better!
That was dumber than many illegal street races I've seen. Besides, why would you take two cars not setup for drag racing and drag race them down public streets in NYC? Aren't you encouraging street racing and belittling what would otherwise be two awesome cars? I saw nothing impressive as far as drag racing goes.
Sorry, I have to agree with a few naysayers. This was nearly pointless. I'm sure all the teenagers that didn't know anything at all about Porsche racing history were duly impressed. Great cars though and I dearly love the design of the Cayman S.
Some of you sound like a bunch of old men scared to push their precious, replica Cobras past 2000RPM, I can't believe you're arguing the point of drag racing these cars, it's obvious just for PR and a little fun. Sorry, most people at the show, on the street, and most Porsche owners probably don't know anything about the racing history. Cool to see how these cars perform outside of the norm.

Cool video.

The Cayman is such a great car, Porsche CEO Weideking should be vilified for holding back its development.
ALEXDB9 @ Mar 26th 2008 5:59PM
Is the GT3 supposed to sound like that....I thought it was going to explode.
tuna @ Mar 26th 2008 6:11PM
Straight cut gears, stronger for competition but noisier. It is also a full spec race car, which means no sound deadening in the car.
GTX141 @ Mar 26th 2008 6:23PM
That RSR should have killed that Cayman. Way to ride that limiter.
Carlos @ Mar 26th 2008 6:33PM
Damn did you see the wheel hop when that GT3 launched. Good lord, that would have shaken your fillings loose.
tgcg @ Mar 26th 2008 6:45PM
The Cayman is so awesome. How much cooler can a Cayman look than doing doughnuts in NYC?
ME @ Mar 26th 2008 6:46PM
Sorry, but that was just dumb.
Trent @ Mar 26th 2008 6:54PM
Did they pick up a couple of bums to drive those cars? the RSR was pegged against the rev limiter for like 100ft...

gt3pwnsall @ Mar 28th 2008 7:42AM
YES!!!!!!!! I've been saying that to myself ever since I saw that one video of him at Farnbacher with that very same Cayman.
