We love our Xbox 360s here at Autoblog. We really do. But lately we've been thinking about trading in for a PlayStation 3. The cause is Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, the temptation only intensifying with every screen capture, new feature and list of drivable cars that crosses cyberspace. We recently brought you news of the Ferrari F2007, Kimi Raikkonen's championship-winning Formula One race car, being available in the new game. Today we bring you a video of said F2007 lapping the Suzuka circuit in Japan.
For those not familiar, well... you should be: Suzuka is one of the most famous race tracks in the world. It's owned by Honda and, on the grand prix set-up, features a unique figure 8 configuration with an overpass. The Japanese Grand Prix moved to the Fuji Speedway (owned by arch-rival Toyota... uh-oh) while Suzuka is undergoing renovations, but is due back on the calendar for next year when Raikkonen will undoubtedly try to beat his own lap record that he set there in 2005. Until then, GT5 will give you the chance to beat Kimi's time in his own car. Check out the (admittedly crude, but exciting) bootleg video after the jump.

The video link is not working, but I went to the source site and watched it. It looks, and just as importantly, sounds stunning. I need to go get my PS3 now.

I have owned and completed everything possible in the GT series, and I am a ferocious automotive nut (right down to my I am The Stig tshirt), but GT5 still hasn't sold me on the PS3 yet. I guess I have a problem paying $440 to play a demo of a game (prologue is devspeak for "demo", folks). I'll stick to forza 2 and play this at a buddy's house until I can get my hands on the full product.. especially while there is jack squat to play on the ps3 that I can't already buy for my 360.

The problem with Forza 2 is you are limited to that toy Microsoft calls a wheel or the gamepad. So basically Forza2 is an arcade racer with extremely accurate tracks like Road Atlanta and Sebring. It's a shame these spot on tracks are wasted on an arcade racer. At least GT5 will support the Logitech MOMO Race, MOMO Red, DFP and G25 among other wheels.

I can see where you're coming from....I wouldn't drop the $60 to play Forza

Agreed. GT5 is the only PS3 game I have any interest in, but I won't even consider getting a PS3 until the full game is out, not just the demo.

Heck, its worth it if you don't already have a blueray player. But I do agree there aren't a whole lot of games out for it yet. I currently have The Orange Box, War Hawk, Prostreet [it sucks]. Resistance fall of man, and i had to admit it.. but rock band... *sigh*. Downloaded the free GT HD, and will probably pick the prologue up. And, we also get to watch movies in 1080p.

Suzuka Short because the console guys can't remember the GP layout. hahaha. You can tell this lap was done on a truly realistic GamePad. That or it was a really bad driver.
I need to take my G25 over to my friends house and see what this game is all about.

Simply amazing! I guess I will sit patiently until the full version comes out, as I did with all previous releases of Gran Turismo.

ermax18 @ Mar 21st 2008 12:45PM
Arrrreee. What? Hahaha. I didn't even notice that.
alternateinbox @ Mar 22nd 2008 10:59PM
Sure, after all, all your virtual lap are belong to Suzuka.

i dont see why people say GT5 hasnt sold me on a PS3 yet? the PS3 is probably the best deal for a bluray player around considering it is almost futureproof thanks to online updates. all you 360 fanbois are at an end...for every PS3 diss there is..thats one more red ring of death in the 360 community.
Tired Watcher @ Mar 21st 2008 3:17PM
Prologue seems to be more than a "demo." There are about 60 cars with 14 tuned cars and six tracks to race on. Plus theres online racing up to 16 people and with GTTV, you'll be able to download episodes, features, and whatever. Plus the PS3 have better exclusive software in the future with Home, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, future Eye Toy applications, and Final Fantasy XIII.
