New Clint Eastwood vehicle titled Gran Torino

While he's shown a certain flair for historical pieces, we sincerely doubt that Clint Eastwood would forego his formidable film-crafting talent to make a documentary about a mid 1970's Ford that can be had for a dollar per pound. Details are scant, but Warner Brothers has targeted December 2008 as a release date for Gran Torino, which Eastwood both stars in and directs. Eastwood is no stranger to the big Ford - he drove a '72 in Magnum Force, the sequel to Dirty Harry, in which he wheeled a '68 Ford Custom. Despite the title we tend to doubt the movie will be terribly car-centric - who'd want to watch that? [Source: Variety via Inside Line]

Quick Googling reveals:
'Gran Torino's plot reportedly follows a retired Callahan as he hunts down the killer of two police officers, one of whom is his grandson. The villain drives a Ford Torino.
I imagine there will be some some RWD hoonage...

In other words, Gran Torino is yet another Dirty Harry/Magnum Force sequel, then?

I'd love a torino today, minus the stripe and some nice wheels and it would be an ideal daily driver.

It's a Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino ripoff.

Looking forward to this movie, I hope it's better then the decent "Bloodwork" though.

Man, there is so much hoon-tastic potential here...too bad it probably won't live up to it. Still, it will probably be better than the Knight Rider redux.

Actually the photo is misleading; I read that the car in the movie is a 1972 Gran Torino, which has the pre-federal-regulation bumpers and a much more attractive front end; no huge girder straight across the front, as the 1973-76 cars had.

The poor Charger and Torino! People taking these cars beauty and ruining them by making General Lee`s and, Starsky and Hutch cars out of them.
Both cars look far better in a normal paint job. Good looking steel sculpture in those days.

A dollar a pound? Surely you kid. A dollar per hundred pounds maybe.

My first car was a 74 Torino (Gran Torino Elite 351 Cleveland). I did my first tuneup on that car and wrecked it because of my crappy work! I remember the spark plugs were angled in from the firewall. I needed a swivel to get at them. It sucked to do! Loved the car though...

Actually Gran Torino prices are $8,000-$15,000 for a 72-76 model, not a total nut and bolt resto's ,but in the condition of a 1 year old car,so $1 per pound is for one that needs some T.L.C. Or you can sometimes find a real nice car for cheap and flip it...they weight 3,400 lbs to 4,000 lbs depending on engine,2 or 4 door ect...
