Pics Aplenty: More of the Porsche Boxster RS 60 Spyder

Porsche has released some additional photos of the special edition Boxster RS 60 Spyder in conjunction with the car's German debut at the Auto Mobil International show in Leipzig. The Boxster RS 60 Spyder, in case you'd forgotten, is a tribute to the Porsche 718 RS 60 Spyder that won Sebring 48 years ago. A total of 1,960 will be produced, each one fitted with slightly modified fascias, PASM, a wheel/tire upgrade, and a sport exhaust that bumps output to 298 HP (303 PS). Additionally, the cars are finished in the same silver-over-red combo as their forbear, with a numbered plaque adorning the dash. The current Boxster's pretty swell, regardless of version, and we're sure Porsche will track down the requisite number of buyers for this particular special. After all, it's bound to be a better deal than the real thing.

Naming a Boxter after the iconic Spyder is just lame.

It's really lame compared to the original.

i like it, but i think they could have went further on the tribute, the performance upgrade is nice - but maybe put a number on the door and trunk, add some of those iconic lights etc.
Make it a real "stand-out" special edition, love it or hate it version.
To me this just looks like another very nice silver boxster, in which there are relatively common.

Sooooo, everything was going along fine until I got to the photo with the top up. Good Lord that red top is u-g-l-y!

Same here. I really don't know that they had any other options but it wasn't working for me. All the other red looks good but the top took it too far for my taste.

There are actually only 1959 of these for sale, because 1 of them is mine =) It's due in July. I think it's friggin awesome, red top up and all.
To manually configure this car on the Porsche web site -as close as you could get, exact is not possible- rings in close to $10k over the msrp of the RS60, so it's a packed value as well.

congrats!
but tell us you're going to drive it and not turn it into a museum piece.

It'll be my daily driver (and my only car) replacing my 335 Ci and MINI Cooper S vert. There was an option to swap all the red out for black, but then it would look like any other sports car, so I'm going for it. Probably help it keep its value better too.

Color me jealous! I love the red interior and roof, personally. The Boxster I drove last year was the most fun car I've ever driven. Have fun with it.

good for you!
i've test drove a few S's and they are a great machine.
Every spring i tell myself this is the year to get one and I never do... this special edition would have maybe given me the kick in the a$$ i needed.
I know they are most likely all spoken for, but anyword if they will be available in Canada?

I love it, but i'm pissed that all the marketing shots showed the car with things like parking assist, nav, etc. which made it seem like the special edition was going to come with all that. In reality they're all options.

Too bad the Spyder on the right makes the one on the left look like a Toyota...
Bart may be right and it is a good value, but wheels/tires and exhaust are a very weak homage to an incredible racing car. Carbon fiber body panels, wheels/tires/brakes/shocks/springs, exhaust and a turbo would be a better package.

FWIW I spent about an hour alone in a similarly equipped GT Orange special edition that lacked only PASM, and I was so in love I *almost* left the dealer with the orange one... seriously, if you haven't driven a Box S with the sport exhaust you should give it a run... the sound alone is intoxicating, and the handling is extraordinary. 303 hp in that puppy is like a rocket launcher.
The only extra I added was BOSE (I love music) otherwise it's perfectly equipped already. (plus I was pushing my budget a little, but it'll be worth it I have no doubt)

There actually are many cars available that are not spoken for. They all are customizable with options. I prefer the dark gray interior. I hear there are only 25 of these currently on order with dealerships. Let me know what you think of these options:

Bring back the swoopy fenders (front and rear) and you'll have something.
