With things like cheap gas and the value of a dollar slowly being taken from us, it's good to see that somebody wants to give us something. For the US release of the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Polyphony has thrown in features the Japanese version didn't get.

There's a drift mode that judges drivers on three parameters, there's two-player, split-screen racing and there are new events and challenges for racers online and offline that can support up to 16 racers simultaneously. Plus, there's a new track, bringing the total to six. And for us, that means there's a new list of excuses we're going to need to come up with when people start asking "Where have you been?" and "You look tired -- were you up late last night?"

In case the cars, tracks and gameplay aren't enough, Winding Road has a new trailer video of the GT5 Prologue featuring a fair bit of Ferrari action -- and that's never a bad way to start the week. Follow the jump to see the complete list of tracks, and check out our updated hi-res photo gallery of the prologue below.

I'm sitting here with my new GT5 Prologue, its so new i havent played it yet and the new smell is killing my stomach, i inhaled too much, watever. I cannot wait to drive the F40, that is my favorite ferrari of all time!!! The Elise can go F$ck itself now!

Will the full version have the Monte Carlo road course?
      Stunning graphics.
However, not crazy about the car list.
Me either, but there are a few good ones on it. I'm also glad that we finally get to drive Ferraris.
To be really honest, I don't think the graphics is even that good...

I mean, look at the buildings. 2D bump mapping, are you kidding me? Are we back in 1999 again?

First of all Prologue is a little bit expensive...I think I can wait for some months.

As for the people who don't know why there is no Porsche, it's Porsche's fault. GT5, and others have to get a license before they can model a car, and tthis year Ferrari agreed to give one out, but Porsche didn't. So blame it on Porsche.

Also, GT4 is already one of the most advanced driving simulation out yet, with numerous parameters, and GT5 will just add on. So for the people who think GT5 doesn't match Forza, the fact is, it exceeds it, by a lot. Graphics are definately better in GT5, as we can see from the pics, so there GT5 is better again!

As for the damage, it takes numerous months just to figure out the real physics, and therefore, it's probably not gonna come into play in GT5. But remember, they do have penalties and other stuff. I say, it's better to have no damage, than some terribly coded damage, that doesn't make sense in reality.

Where are any Hyundai cars? Wheres the Azera, Sonata, Genesis coupe and Genesis V8??
      Like Alex...

I'm all Ferrari being added to the game.

      Re:Porsche

They give you Ruf instead of Porsche.

Yellow Bird FTW! (If you can control the thing at speed, wild ride in GT4)

      As for Toyota...

the game will be chock full of Toyotas in the full release.

      Re:Damage

Designers said the don't want to do it until they can to it with relative accuracy. (Read:the modeling in Forza is terrible really)

What? No Mercury's or Cadillac's on the car list?
        @Chris
        Hahahah

        Two options here:
1 - It is funny because of the sarcasm
2 - It is funny because he is serious

        Either way, I am laughing
Has there been any word on damage or the addition of Porsche?
don't they just put in Ruf instead? it's not just GT's problem, it is also a problem for forza and any non-ea publisher.
Yes, RUF is one aspect of Porsche that they partially have covered.

I am talking 917, 908, 935, 956/962, GT1... a wealth of road-racing cars that no marque has even come close to matching.

THAT is why I wanted Porsche.
        um...Forza has porsche.
Hmmm ... a distinct lack of any Toyotas. I know it's not the final list, but still.

I don't know what the fuss is about the $40. The simple fact that you'll get a piece of the greatest video game of all time along with the ability to race against the world and show off the skills that you've acquired from the 1st 4 games should be reason enough to want to pay $140! Even more reason is that if you don't get the head start on the prologue, when the full version comes out you'll be left in the dust by those who had the prologue.

For those who do get the prologue, and want to race against some serious racers, contact me on the PS3 network under the ID of stangposse. Let's get this party started!

I can't wait, I've been playing the japan demo for what seems like months now, $40 isn't bad to get access to this fantastic f*ck fest of graphics and cars asap. I think sony has their marketing ducks in a line, if you're paying 3-6 bills for a console, and 400+ for an HD TV to see it at full res, and a 5.1 surround sound system, then $40 is about what you pay for the latest blu ray releases, or two, so you shouldn't have issue grabbing the demo. I predict massive sales for this thing.

I had heard "no" on the Porsche and "yes" on the damage but my information is old. You might be able to get it on their official webpage but I'm unable to access it at work.

Also, the Top Gear track will be available in the full GT5!
yeah, but the track doesn't come with clarkson's commentary while your driving now does it?
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car or Power Laps commentary?
The power laps commentary would end up being more repetitive than John Madden...
