Shiftright: I feel strongly that you are out of touch with modern Alfas,
Guess what? I drive an Alfa, and I am on my second 159 this year. Beautiful cars but not on par with the Germans for the US markets. They barely cut it for Europe where Alfa market share does not even compete with that of BMW or Audi.

I'm curious, why two 159s in one year? I agree they have not been on par with the Germans for decades, but the gap is rapidly narrowing in quality and performance. Remember how bad Jaguar used to be? They are now at the top of quality surveys and their latest offerings (X Type excluded) cannot really be faulted, stylistic preferences aside. Audis had horribly plastic interiors right up to the A4, and offered mediocre reliability to go with mediocre driving experiences. Hell, Ferraris were horribly unreliable at one point with thrown together interiors.
