I think you're all partially correct. The British supplied the Indians with infrastructure, and the Indians used that infrastructure to begin building useful products and taking back some of the resources (money, natural resources, etc.) that the British had taken from them. A bit lopsided in favor of the British, possibly, but to say the British did nothing for India is just as bad as saying the British are the reason that India is now becoming a global power.

I look forward to a day when the Indians are finally able to recover from the British's economic abuses, and hope for the United States and the rest of the Western Hemisphere that they do not respond by taking all of our money in the same matter that we took theirs.
